Access control is a system to control and secure physical access to an individual, building, or location. There’s no denying that access control systems always improving and advancing in the security field. And with increased liability, improved security, and increased opportunities for risk-based penalties securing premises has become much more important to businesses and organizations. This is why manufacturers are always developing better systems for access control to keep up with the latest security needs and challenges.
Two-factor authentication, where two independent keys are used instead of one, is one way of improving a company’s access control system. Two-factor authentication involves verifying that the person trying to gain access to a location knows and understands that key and has a good enough reason to believe they possess that key. Two-factor authentication systems usually require at least one person to know and understand the key – either through training, common-sense, or a physical security check. It’s very important that you have a strong physical security environment (such as with a metal building) to make it easier for employees to comprehend and verify another person’s key.
