The Westerville City School District Food Service Department is phasing in biometric finger scanning, starting with Blendon Middle, Longfellow Elementary, and Pointview Elementary schools. Instead of swiping their ID card to pay for lunch, students now will use a fingerprint to access their meal accounts.

VOXX International Corporation (VOXX) announced that it has entered into a Definitive Agreement to purchase the assets, inclusive of all intellectual property, of iris authentication market leader EyeLock through an acquiring entity. Upon consummation of the transaction, VOXX will have a controlling interest in the acquiring entity. The closing of the transaction is subject to completion of due diligence. Expanding on its existing supply chain and distribution relationship with EyeLock, VOXX will play a larger role in the distribution and sale of EyeLock’s suite of products with an increased focus on enterprise and access control business lines.

When Nest Labs introduced the Nest Learning Thermostat in 2011, the company awakened a dormant thermostat industry. In the prior few decades, consumers had not seen much improvement in thermostats and the improvements that did occur were more cosmetic than functional – for example programmable thermostats with touchscreens that became available around 2005.
