Haystax Technology, a leading provider of advanced analytics and cybersecurity solutions, will participate in the Urban Shield exercise in the San Francisco Bay Area September 11- 14. Haystax will provide on-site support at the event for the fourth year in a row. Urban Shield, held annually since 2007, is a comprehensive, full-scale functional exercise that tests the skills, tactics and endurance of participating first responders and emergency management personnel in the overall Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Region, an existing Haystax customer.

Haystax will provide on-site support throughout the multi-day event. The Haystax Public Safety Cloud Applications, which is the platform for the California Common Operating Picture (Cal COP) for Threat Awareness, will be used as the regional common operating picture for the Yellow Command emergency management exercise on Friday, September 11, 2015.

Cal COP combines existing knowledge from assessments on risk to critical infrastructure with real-time information on natural hazards and man-made threats. This allows first responders to appropriately respond to threats within the Bay Area UASI Region.

Additionally, the Haystax Watchboard, powered by the Constellation analytics platform, and Mobile Indicator application will both be utilized during the Red and Gold Command scenario exercises to provide actionable intelligence and increased situational awareness for first responders and emergency management personnel.

The Red and Orange Command Exercises will start the morning of Saturday, September 12, 2015, and run continuously for the next 48 hours. During this time state, federal and international agencies will train together to ensure the participating first responders are prepared to respond to any type of disaster, whether natural or man-made.

“Large scale exercises with real world scenarios like Urban Shield are invaluable to maintaining proficiency and training to protect lives and property of residents of the Bay Area Region,” said Alameda County Sheriff, Gregory J. Ahern. “Haystax’s Cal COP applications make our all-hazards response capabilities stronger.”

Last year’s Urban Shield event drew more than 5,500 participants, including tactical officers, regional law enforcement and government employees, state and federal agencies, as well as transportation, fire, emergency medical services (EMS), military and related corporate personnel, testing their abilities to coordinate and sustain a large-scale event.

This year’s event will include more than 55 scenarios, which will address concerns such as critical infrastructure targets, privately-owned infrastructure, transportation sector and hospital services.

“In times of emergency, total situational awareness is critical for timely incident response,” said Haystax CEO William Van Vleet. “Training events like Urban Shield are extremely important and we’re pleased to once again participate in the exercise alongside the Bay Area UASI Region.”
