A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed earlier this year on behalf of three women who say she was rape while at the Grainger County Jail. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed. That will be paid for by the county’s insurance.
The lawsuit, filed in January, alleged that former corrections officer, Jessee Cummings, repeatedly raped three women who were being kept in the jail by taking them to an area where security video cameras couldn’t see what was happening.
The original suit was for $186 million. And the county’s insurance only covers up to $2 million.
The two sides also agreed that more lawsuits cannot be filed on behalf of those defendants. Mayor Mark Hipsher told our Lauren Davis he’s relieved the lawsuit is settled so it won’t cost tax payers any additional money. […]
