Alarm.com (Nasdaq: ALRM), the leading platform for the connected home and business, today announced the acquisition of substantially all of ObjectVideo, Inc’s. business, including the company’s products, technology portfolio and personnel. ObjectVideo is a pioneer in the fields of video analytics and computer vision, with technology that extracts meaning and intelligence from video streams in real-time to enable object tracking, pattern recognition and activity identification. The business, now called ObjectVideo Labs, will accelerate Alarm.com’s research and development of video services and video analytics applications, and will continue to provide advanced research and engineering services for federal government customers.

NVIDIA Unveils New Jetson TX2 Platform

NVIDIA unveiled the NVIDIA® Jetson™ TX2, a credit card-sized platform that delivers artificial intelligence computing at the edge – opening the door to powerfully intelligent factory robots, commercial drones, and smart cameras for artificial intelligence (AI) cities. Jetson TX2 offers twice the performance of its predecessor —as in it can run at more than twice the power efficiency— while drawing less than 7.5-watts of power. This allows Jetson TX2 to run larger, deeper neural networks on edge devices. The result means smarter devices with higher accuracy and faster response times for tasks like image classification, navigation, and speech recognition.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere wants to test video surveillance with facial recognition software in Germany’s train stations, a leaked parliamentary document has revealed. The technology is part of a wider plan to expand video surveillance across public spaces in Germany that was revealed on Wednesday in a draft law that the cabinet intends to rubberstamp in November.
