There was a time when I hired staff and assumed that they were all in with my business.
Rah! Let’s go!
Then I began to realize that from the moment they were hired, they actually only accepted a job to perform defined tasks.
Over time, they would develop skills and talent and, most importantly, an understanding of the benefit their work contributed to our organization and the clients we served. Their work compounded itself, building momentum as each program was fully developed and managed.
The goal with all of our staff was to facilitate a view where they saw the organization as a business, not just a paycheck. As the owner, it can be easy to fall into the silo of what my daily responsibilities are and not stay on the front-end of our staff’s development. But that development of their understanding of how a business works, notably the challenges and opportunities inherent within it, are invaluable.
Whether they have a job, appreciate and value the work, or have a full understanding of the enterprise as a business, they are a critical part of the team. An integral part of our monthly publication is including editorial from our contributors which provide useful insight to business owners on how to build camaraderie and engagement internally to better serve their customers and clients.
This month, we have topics ranging from developing the responsibilities we as business owners must take to adapting to the incredible pace of evolution the industry is experiencing, developing a greater nuance as a professional sales rep, and taking an organizational approach when preparing to serving clients at the greatest time of need – when natural disasters strike.
