Pivot3, a leading supplier of video surveillance and virtual desktop (VDI) hyper-converged infrastructure, has announced a comprehensive update to the operating system of its vSTAC suite of technologies that further improve performance and enhance operational simplicity.

Updates to the vSTAC platform focus on driving new levels of performance while simplifying system management and usability. Online upgrades of vSTAC virtual SAN software are now available to ease the upgrade migration process.

A non-disruptive, fully integrated maintenance capability enables administrators to dynamically upgrade and manage appliances while maintaining virtual server and storage availability.

Virtual machines are allocated to other appliances within the array to ensure continued performance and flexibility.

vSTAC Manager Suite features an updated user interface that delivers a rich graphics experience, while quick and proactive diagnostics extend service and support options to ensure system uptime.

The new OS also includes improved VMware integration and is fully compatible with vSphere 5.5

?We have designed the new vSTAC platform as a simple to deploy and manage hyper-converged infrastructure,? said Mike Dunbar, VP Global VDI Sales and Marketing, Pivot3. ?Online upgrades are simple and fast ? less than 20 minutes per node compared to up to 24 hours per node required by other hyper-converged infrastructures when maintaining full fault protection. During this time, the array continues to run with no affect on performance or storage, minimizing downtime and system disruption.?

Pivot3 vSTAC OS 6.5 improves responsiveness, supports more efficient data movement, and reduces system overhead with a full 64-bit data path.

A configurable read and write cache supplements available system cache from 2 GB to 64GB. Read and write acceleration options drive more efficient use of SSD write cache, longer sustained write bursts and less cache swapping, ideal for demanding workloads.

A leader in purpose-built storage appliances for the video surveillance and VDI markets, Pivot3 pioneered the innovation of converging shared storage, networking, and servers through patented software. This unique approach reduces the cost and complexity of deployments and management.

The company?s patented Pivot3 vSTAC —virtual storage and compute— software runs on top of the hypervisor, which virtualizes the machines.

vSTAC OS defines, creates and virtualizes all physical storage —SSD and hard drives— across an array into a common pool of RAID-protected SAN storage.

The Pivot3 vSTAC family of appliances delivers seamlessly converged, highly available shared storage and virtual server appliances that are designed for storage efficient fault-tolerant workloads.

Pivot3 vSTAC appliances run on enterprise-class Dell hardware, which eliminates many of the complexities, constraints and high costs associated with legacy shared storage and converged computing alternatives.
