Reach Capital Leads Seed Round To Scale CurvePoint’s Wi-AI

CurvePoint, a Carnegie Mellon spinout, has secured a seed round led by Reach Capital to scale its privacy-first Wi-AI platform, a Wi-Fi-based threat detection system designed to strengthen school safety. Wi-AI uses artificial intelligence to interpret how Wi-Fi signals interact with the physical environment, identifying subtle disruptions caused by people and objects to deliver real-time insight into weapons, occupancy, and movement.

Unlike camera-based solutions that depend on visual line-of-sight, Wi-AI detects concealed objects —even those hidden inside backpacks or bags— while maintaining student privacy. This enables schools to gain actionable situational awareness without increasing surveillance or compromising personal rights.

“Continued support from Reach Capital reinforces our vision for proactive, privacy-first safety,” said Skip Smith., CEO of CurvePoint.

“School districts should not have to choose between keeping students safe and respecting their privacy. Wi-AI shows that both are possible by using technology schools already have in place.”

Over the past year, CurvePoint has expanded its real-world footprint by partnering with Chartiers Valley School District, the first in the United States to deploy Wi-AI across all its campuses. The company also established a statewide partnership with Questeq, a managed service provider supporting more than 40 Pennsylvania school districts. These collaborations have set the foundation for broader national expansion.

“Schools are asking for tools that improve safety without adding complexity, additional staffing burdens, or expensive surveillance hardware,” said Steve Kupfer., Partner at Reach Capital.

“CurvePoint’s solution delivers immediate, practical value by using the Wi-Fi infrastructure districts already trust. It’s rare to see a solution that is both powerful and easy to implement.”

Traditional camera-based systems can fail to identify threats that remain concealed or out of frame. In contrast, Wi-AI takes a proactive approach by monitoring disruptions in Wi-Fi signals to detect potential threats in real time — sometimes before a weapon is even visible.

This capability helps schools transition from reactive security measures to proactive risk prevention. With early insight into unusual activity, districts can respond faster, reduce uncertainty, and potentially stop incidents before they escalate.

To support its next phase of growth, CurvePoint will use the new funding to:

  • Expand into additional school districts
  • Enhance its AI models using real-world deployment data
  • Grow its partner network for implementation and support
  • Extend its spatial intelligence capabilities into healthcare, senior care, and workplace security

As part of this expansion, the company will move to a new headquarters at 600 River Ave, Suite 103, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, effective January 1, 2026.

Reach Capital is an early-stage venture firm investing in entrepreneurs who are reimagining how people learn, work, and access essential services. The firm backs technology-driven solutions across education, workforce development, and healthcare, helping innovative companies scale their impact.

CurvePoint is a leader in spatial intelligence, using Wi-Fi signals and AI to provide real-time, privacy-conscious insights that improve safety and operational efficiency. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How does Wi-AI detect threats without cameras?
Wi-AI analyzes how Wi-Fi signals change when people or objects move through a space, allowing it to detect patterns linked to potential threats without visual data.

2. Can Wi-AI identify concealed weapons?
Yes. The system can detect disruptions caused by objects hidden in backpacks, bags, or clothing.

3. Is student privacy protected?
Yes. Wi-AI is privacy-first and does not use facial recognition or visual surveillance.

4. Does it require new hardware?
No. Wi-AI uses a school’s existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, keeping costs low and deployment simple.

5. Is this only for schools?
While initially focused on education, CurvePoint is expanding into healthcare, senior care, and workplace security sectors.
