D2K Project: SecurityHive’s Data to Knowledge Project – Arecont Vision

SecurityHive’s D2K Project presents four questions to physical security and video surveillance product manufacturers asking them how their products turn computer data into business knowledge their customers can apply to their business – to their bottom line.

Here is Arecont Vision’s feedback:

Question #1

Define the users that would be interested in your product/service and what traditional benefits they would gain from similar products/services.
Arecont Vision is the leader in IP megapixel (MP) cameras, and are used around the world by small retailers and businesses through to the most valuable companies and important commercial, government, and educational organizations. Video surveillance demands continue to grow in demand globally, for security and other needs.

Question #2
Explain what business challenges your product/service solves and why end-customers would be interested.
Arecont Vision IP megapixel cameras are able to better address the needs of the market than traditional analog technology. Megapixel imagery is able to convey more information more affordably than analog cameras, and the can reduce the number of cameras required to cover a specific space while improving the images delivered. Arecont Vision cameras feature technology developed by our engineering teams, ranging from wide dynamic range (WDR), STELLAR™ low light color imaging technology, advanced H.264 data compression, and other features instead of using commodity, off-the-shelf components than can not be adequately tuned to match the performance and capability of our products.

Question #3
Elaborate on how the end-users of your product/service will turn the usage of your product/service into actual business knowledge about their environment that would lead to a greater business understanding.
Arecont Vision’s megapixel cameras in general, and our SurroundVideo® multi-sensor panoramic cameras in particular have led the way in introducing this important imaging technology into the market. Improved video capability means that more information can be produced from a single camera, providing more information to the end user customer. In a traditional environment, hundreds or thousands of cameras might be deployed which is typically too complex an environment for situational awareness. If an incident occurs on a particular camera, and no one is monitoring that camera on a monitor, it will only be potentially useful as forensic knowledge in playback at a later time. With an Arecont Vision SurroundVideo® multi-sensor panoramic camera delivering up to 40MP – the first in the industry, introduced in 2006 and now in our 5th generation – the customer instead receives full situational awareness.

Instead of having to monitor multiple screens or feeds from cameras, multi-sensor panoramic cameras provide a non-stop recording environment, with sensors set to 180, 270, or 360 degrees depending upon the requirement. The high quality megapixel imagery captures more detail than analog cameras – so that zooming in to read the print on a license plate, sign, or vehicle yields useful data. And recording never stops unlike with a Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) where only the images where the camera is currently pointing are viewable and recorded for future forensic review and analysis.

That means that a large area such as a factory floor, warehouse, parking lot, stadium, entertainment venue, lobby, street corner, etc. can be monitored non-stop with full recording, and displayed on a monitor instead of having to switch from monitor to monitor and camera to camera. A stadium that might require hundreds or thousands of traditional analog cameras to monitor the entire bowl area can now be simplified and costs dramatically reduced with just a few SurroundVideo® multi-sensor panoramic megapixel cameras.

Question #4
Describe the process of how the use of your product/service will help businesses turn the data gained into usable business awareness/knowledge for their own benefit.
Arecont Vision cameras can reduce costs of surveillance deployments by reducing the number of cables required, the number of pole or building mounts, fewer software licenses for NVRs/video management system software, and less network bandwidth with fewer cameras.

Yet they provide non-stop recording and live viewing capability so that systems are not only more affordable, but they can be deployed for many more needs. Areas which could never be practically covered due to capabilities or cost; applications never thought of for camera usage as affordable such as for people counting, supply chain monitoring, production monitoring, etc. All are possible thanks to Arecont Vision megapixel camera technology and in particular multi-sensor panoramic cameras.

About Arecont Vision:
Arecont Vision is exclusively focused on megapixel technology and, as the industry leader, has contributed more to the advancement of megapixel imaging for professional security applications than any other company in the security market. Our worldwide installed base of megapixel cameras crosses a broad spectrum of applications and venues – a proven testament to Arecont Vision’s leadership in developing innovative megapixel imaging technologies and Made in the USA products.

As a result of our best-in-class product architecture, we typically introduce new imaging technology years ahead of competitors because we don’t have to wait until a new off-the-shelf ASIC is available.
