Genetec Shares Guidance for Retailers on Protecting Against Organized Retail Crime this Holiday Season

The U.S. National Retail Foundation (NRF) reports that its members have once again cited organized retail crime (ORC) as one of the biggest threats to their business. Genetec shared guidance with retailers on protecting their customers, staff, and business as they head into the holiday shopping season. According to NRF’s 2023 National Retail Security Survey, 67% of retailers noted an increase in ORC-related violence and aggression compared with 2022.

Last year, retail stores in the U.S. lost an estimated $86.6 billion USD to theft. According to the same report from the National Retail Federation, that number is projected to increase to over $115 billion by 2025. Loss prevention is always top of mind for retailers. However, of growing concern is organized retail crime, which is increasing at an alarming rate. Brick-and-mortar retailers, many of which are already struggling, are now facing increased exposure.

Interface Shares Best Practices to Fight Retail Crime

According to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) latest National Retail Security Survey, retail crime represented $112.1 billion in losses in 2022. To bring attention to this crucial issue, October 26 has been designated as ‘Fight Retail Crime Day’. In support of the NRF’s initiative, Interface Systems offers retailers best practices to fight retail crime. As retail crime continues to evolve in scope and sophistication, so do retailers’ prevention efforts. When asked about resource allocation to address today’s risks, over half (53%) of NRF survey respondents said they have increased their technology and software solution budgets in the past year.
