HID Expands Passwordless Authentication With IDmelon Acquisition

Acquisition grows HID’s FIDO authentication offering by enabling existing physical access cards and mobile devices to easily become FIDO2 security keys for digital access

HID has signed an agreement to acquire IDmelon, a Vancouver-based secure sign-in provider specializing in passwordless authentication. The acquisition will expand HID’s FIDO authentication portfolio, enabling organizations to transform existing access cards and mobile devices into FIDO2 security keys for digital access.

The move reinforces HID’s commitment to simplifying the shift toward passwordless login experiences while maintaining robust, phishing-resistant security across enterprise environments.

Streamlining Passwordless Authentication

IDmelon’s FIDO Management Platform allows users to turn existing identifiers—such as access cards, smartphones, or biometrics—into FIDO-compliant authentication tools. This approach eliminates the need for traditional passwords and hardware tokens by repurposing existing devices as secure login credentials.

The platform simplifies enterprise adoption of passwordless systems by offering centralized management. Administrators can import user groups, manage credentials, enforce security policies, and monitor authentication activity from a single interface. Employees gain frictionless access through PIN or biometric verification, minimizing disruptions during deployment.

“Users have become acutely aware of the problems with passwords,” said Björn Lidefelt, EVP and Head of HID. “By adding IDmelon to the HID family, we now provide an easier path to passwordless.”

Martin Ladstaetter, SVP and Head of Identity and Access Management Solutions at HID, added:

“Now, with IDmelon in our portfolio, we can help customers maximize their hardware investments by converting existing access cards into converged credentials—secure keys that unify physical and logical access.”

Founded in 2019 and a member of the FIDO Alliance, IDmelon’s solution integrates seamlessly with enterprise infrastructures, delivering both operational efficiency and enhanced identity protection. Its technology is now part of HID’s Identity and Access Management Solutions (IAMS) Business Area under the Authentication Business Unit.

Bahram Piri, CEO and Founder of IDmelon, stated, “By joining forces with HID, we’re better positioned to help organizations move beyond passwords and secure their systems against phishing and credential-based threats.”

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to finalize in Q4 2025.About HID
