Smart Surveillance Cameras – Video Intelligence Included

Cameras have always been the eyes of the security industry; the brain, a distant conglomeration of storage devices and diligent security personnel. As demand continues to grow and costs decline, thousands of cameras are added to surveillance networks every year.

John Sepassi, sales manager at IntelliVision, describes the situation, “Now that we’re at a point where technology can successfully fulfill expectations, it is important to supplement surveillance systems with intelligence solutions to deter malicious actions proactively, as opposed to reactively.”

IntelliVision, a video analytics and intelligence provider based in San Jose, California, has been operating inside the security industry for over 12 years.

After the terrorist attacks of 2001, renewed interest in automated security subsequently led to enabling advancements in technology.

IntelliVision headed development of video analytics by request of the United States government. Offerings were soon expanded into the commercial sector.

Originally, most solutions designed by IntelliVision were added on to existing analog infrastructure. Now things are changing.

IP-cameras are becoming the new standard thanks to declining prices and improved features. Ambarella, a leading developer of video compression and image processing solutions, has pushed the industry forward by advancing technology in security IP-cameras.

Today, individual cameras have enough processing power to perform video intelligence tasks without burdening their networks or requiring back-end dedicated servers.

IntelliVision worked with Ambarella to make cameras smarter. Ambarella’s most advanced IP-camera solution, the S2, is packed with cutting edge technology. Specifications include a 4K UltraHD H.264 encoder – optimal for precise analytics.

IntelliVision partnered with Ambarella to supply each S2 with video intelligence software. Camera manufacturers, customers of the S2, can turn on a number of analytics included in each chipset.

Included:

  • Motion Detection
  • Intrusion Detection
  • Camera Tamper Detection
  • Video Search

Additional, more advanced analytics can be upgraded by request.

These include:

  • Retail Analytics
  • License Plate Recognition (LPR)
  • Facial Recognition
  • Loitering
  • Wrong Direction
  • Advanced Counting
  • Object Left Behind
  • Object Removed
  • Crowd Formation
  • Person Running
  • Slip & Fall/Duress

Built-in video intelligence found on the S2 put advanced analytics in reach of more customers. Plug and play attributes of cameras running on the S2 make implementation seamless for the end user.

Eventually, an app store developed by IntelliVision will become available giving end users the ability to choose from a list of video analytic options. As camera manufacturers adopt the S2 or chipsets with similar capabilities analytics will become readily available on many more security cameras.
