ONVIF Releases First Add-on for Secure Communications

ONVIF has released the final version of the TLS Configuration Add-on to increase the security of communications between devices and software clients within a physical security system. The add-on supports the configuration for Transport Layer Security encryption, enabling a conformant video management system to initially configure or update TLS settings in a conformant device, such as a camera, to support encrypted communications between the device and client.

ONVIF Announces New Chairman

ONVIF is pleased to announce the appointment of Leo Levit as the new chairman of the ONVIF Steering Committee. Levit serves as Director of System Integration at Axis Communications and brings to the chairman’s role a strong technical background and more than a decade of product management, marketing and sales experience. Levit takes over from Per Björkdahl, who is stepping down from the role of chairman after nine years.

ONVIF Introduces Release Candidate for Profile D for Access Control Peripherals

ONVIF has published the Release Candidate for Profile D, a draft specification that covers interfaces for access control peripherals. This newest profile candidate is designed to provide ONVIF interoperability for peripheral devices such as locks, credential/biometric readers, PIN pads, license plate recognition cameras, door phones, sensors and displays. Using Profile D, a peripheral device can pass credential identifiers to a securely located Profile D conformant clients.

ONVIF Hosts 21st Developers’ Plugfest in Rome

ONVIF hosted its 21st Developers’ Plugfest late last year in Rome, an event that highlighted the continued demand for interoperable solutions. More than 30 developers and engineers from 18 ONVIF member companies gathered for this multi-day event, which featured 164 hours of testing. Attendees tested their implementations of ONVIF profiles along with other ONVIF profile-conformant products. Developers could also test products independently for profile conformance.

NIST Recommends ONVIF Video Export Spec as New Standard for FBI

ONVIF® announced that its Export File Format, the ONVIF specification for the export of video from security surveillance recording platforms, is the new standard recommended by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the exporting and playback of video surveillance recordings. In a research project commissioned by the FBI to aid law enforcement in forensic investigations, NIST worked in conjunction with ONVIF to adopt the Export File Format to serve as the FBI’s new minimum interoperability requirements.

ONVIF® announced the winner of the first ever ONVIF Open Source Spotlight Challenge. The winning app, CAM X, submitted by Canada-based developer Liqiao Ying, offers an Artificial Intelligence-based object detection system that utilizes blockchain solutions for storing information obtained from ONVIF cameras. The two-month online challenge, offered in conjunction with BeMyApp, offered lucrative cash prizes for developers who use the protocol provided by ONVIF to create open source mobile or desktop applications for advanced video streaming.
