ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions announced that French-based ALCEA (SAS), whose acquisition was made known in August this year, will be merged into Global Solutions’ Critical Infrastructure business. ALCEA has a strong focus on access control and relevant vertical markets. The parties will present their combined offering at the Expoprotection trade show in Paris, 15–17 November. ALCEA’s has a turnover of approximately 20 million euros. The company is well established in the French-speaking market, in addition to France, also in South America.
The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil antitrust lawsuit to block ASSA ABLOY AB’s (ASSA ABLOY) proposed $4.3 billion acquisition of the Hardware and Home Improvement division of its rival, Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc (Spectrum). ASSA ABLOY and Spectrum are two of the three largest producers of residential door hardware in the concentrated, $2.4 billion U.S. industry. If the merger were to go through the DoJ says that Assa Abloy would have a “near monopoly” on premium mechanical door hardware and more than a 50 percent share in smart locks.

Europe’s newest multipurpose arena, Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland, includes state-of-the-art access management. Security and access control systems are integrated with arena staff shifts and logistics. Mobile devices and wristbands are used as keys. Rapid emergency exit is also central to the arena, which draws 15,000 people. Solutions for the arena have been provided by Abloy Oy.
PSIA announced it has elected Jason Ouellette, as its Chairman and Ewa Pigna, the Chief Technology Officer for LenelS2, a part of Carrier Global Corporation, as its Vice-Chairman. In addition, Peter Boriskin, the Chief Technology Officer for ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Americas, will continue in his role as the organization’s treasurer. HID Global announces Björn Lidefelt has been named President and CEO. Björn joins the company after serving as Chief Commercial Officer at HID parent company ASSA ABLOY, where he oversaw branding, communications, commercial development and strategy. He also has extensive experience in international sales and marketing, having spent more than nine years in Asia Pacific markets including China and Malaysia.

ASSA ABLOY has acquired LifeSafety Power, a leading US supplier of smart integrated access control power solutions for OEMs, integrators and end-users. LifeSafety Power was established in 2009 and has some 65 employees. The main office is located in Libertyville, Illinois. Sales for 2019 are expected to reach about USD 30 million with a good EBIT margin and the acquisition will be accretive to EPS from start. The ASSA ABLOY Group is a global leader in access solutions.

Beginning this fall, students, faculty and staff at Clemson University will be able to add their IDs to Apple Wallet and use their iPhone and Apple Watch to access buildings on campus, purchase meals and much more. To support student IDs in Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch, HID provides Seos-enabled credentials, HID iCLASS SE and HID OMNIKEY readers.
