Sentry360 Launches Open-Platform NVR Edge Devices For Plug-And-Play IP Video Surveillance
Lakeport Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they say is responsible for a string of downtown burglaries committed last week. Jeffery William Stokes, 25, is sought in connection with break-ins at several Lakeport businesses. A second suspect, Kimberly Jo Harvey, 46, already is in custody. “It’s definitely a substantial case,” Lt. Jason Ferguson said Friday. Multiple items were stolen from each place, he said, declining to estimate the value of the items stolen. Harvey was arrested Jan. 9 on suspicion of burglary and possessing stolen property and burglary tools after police found her at a motel room that the hotel manager connected with a man matching Stokes’ description, police said. That man had been stealing coins from the motel’s laundry room, the manager told police. Video surveillance showed a man registering for a room under the name Stokes. The man’s appearance matched that of a man seen on video, along with a woman, on burglarizing a local dry cleaning business two days earlier, police said. An officer went to the room registered to Stokes. He was not there but police said the officer got verbal permission from a woman there, later identified as Harvey, to enter the motel room. The officer saw multiple items he believed to be stolen, including jewelry and blank checks. There also were bolt cutters and other devices considered to be burglary tools, police said. The Lake County District Attorney on Monday filed a complaint accusing Stokes, believed to be […]

I-View Now Finalizes Hosted Video Partnership Agreement With Axis
[H]ard|Forum Shorehn Gawd, 8.2 Years Status: 1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc I just started my first job as a system administrator. We’ve got Linux servers and Macs in computer labs. I’d like to use this machine to try out KVM virtual machines for our servers, any CPU-intensive tasks I may eventually put on the servers, and possibly video editing software. (We’re looking at Linux and open source equivalents to stuff like Adobe due to budget cutbacks) 2) What’s your budget? Are tax and shipping included? The person I’m replacing claims that they’ll pay for anything "within reason" since they’re used to paying crazy prices for Macs. He said that I should have no trouble at all getting something around $800-1000. I’d like to keep it around that price so there’s enough money in the IT budget for other stuff. 3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible. Pittsburgh, PA. No Microcenter nearby 4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you’ll need. CPU, quiet HSF, motherboard, RAM, case, PSU, optical drive, hard disk (and/or SSD), hot swap bay, thermal paste. 5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Frost & Sullivan: Rapid Indian Infrastructure Expansion To Accelerate Adoption of Video Surveillance-as-a-Service Solutions
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 — (Business Wire India) As services have only just begun to roll out, the video surveillance-as-a-service (VSaaS) market in India is still at a nascent stage. Nevertheless, the deployment of cloud-based models, Government efforts to improve IT infrastructure, and rising awareness on the benefits of robust surveillance solutions will spur implementation of VSaaS. Considering the critical nature of providing video surveillance services, cementing the first mover advantage in this market is crucial for market participants. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan ( http://www.electronics.frost.com ), Strategic Analysis of Video Surveillance-as-a-Service Market in India , finds that while there were only 20,898 camera sites which could have been serviced by VSaaS solutions in 2012, the addressable market for VSaaS will rise steeply post 2016 due to government policies on electronics coming to fruition and the completion of several infrastructure projects to reach 441,742 units in 2018. “Increased infrastructure spending and the projected growth of multi-brand retail will fuel the VSaaS market in India. The cost and business benefits for end users, including better streamlined surveillance expenditure for enterprises, will further boost VSaaS popularity in the country” said Frost & Sullivan Analyst. Moreover, the transition to more efficient video compression technologies will enhance the value for customers and encourage VSaaS usage. The availability of robust bandwidth, along with storage will become key differentiators for the market. However, low penetration of broadband in India and relatively slow uptake of video surveillance will pose a challenge to […]

Pivot3 Puts Former Perot Exec In CEO Hotseat
Free Regcast : Managing Multi-Vendor Devices with System Centre 2012 Ron Nash is the new CEO at Pivot3, a 10-year-old converged storage startup that has not been setting the world on fire. The company, founded in 2003 by Lee Caswell and Bob Galloway, aimed to build storage systems with server virtualisation embedded within, which it markets as “serverless computing”. Today it has more than 600 customers for its vSTAC converged storage and compute appliances, and focuses on the video surveillance and VDI markets. Rich Bravman was the CEO from November of 2011 to April this year, when he left. In August this year Lee Caswell left and joined Fusion-io as the VP for its virtualisation product group and product marketing. He was an early CEO at Pivot3, serving in that role from 2005 to 2007. When a co-founder leaves a startup for a salaried post at an alternative company, that implies the heady startup days of business-building and share options with stratospheric potential are over. Now Ron Nash has been appointed CEO: an old war horse, we might think, as he’s been Pivot3’s exec chairman since January 2005. He’s an ex-Perot Systems Corp VP, and was at EDS before that. He is also part of venture capital firm InterWest Partners and boasts a history of serving in several board positions, including multiple chairmanships. So why has he decided to up his stress levels and become a CEO again? The company statement says: ”Mr Nash will be responsible for accelerating […]

Hollywood Comes To Video Surveillance
Dailies. B-Rolls. Circle-Takes. These digital video oriented processes of the ?Hollywood? production marketplace have ?for nearly a decade now? seen an explosion in the volume of recorded video that must be stored and managed. Entirely new workflows have been created to handle the deluge of video that digital movie-set cameras have unleashed. In the old days parts of movies, TV shows, and commercials would end up on the ?cutting room floor? as sections of film were edited out of the production. Nowadays, every ?take? is kept and possibly re-used in the bloopers edition or the director?s cut release.
