ASIS International Celebrates Military and Law Enforcement Day at GSX 2023
ASIS International celebrated Military and Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2023 on Wednesday. As a thank you for their service, all law enforcement, military, and first responders received a free one-day pass to attend GSX. In Wednesday’s general session, ASIS recognized the bicentennial of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are America’s oldest state law enforcement agency and have been instrumental in not only combatting crime in Texas, but also in disaster response and recovery across the state.
ASIS International at Global Security Exchange 2023 Opens in Dallas
ASIS International opened their annual conference at Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2023 in Dallas. The event will continue through September 13 and feature more than 200 education sessions and over 470 exhibitors. In addition to the days yet to come, this year GSX featured two days of pre-conference events on Saturday and Sunday, including Secure Horizons: An Immersive Experience for Senior Security Executives, ASIS Volunteers’ Day, and the ASIS Awards of Excellence and the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs).

ASIS International announced the full slate for its 2022 Global Board of Directors and inaugural North American Regional Board of Directors and European Regional Board of Directors. 2022 global and regional directors will take office 1 January 2022. Cy A. Oatridge, CPP, of the United States has been selected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of the Global Board in 2022, joining President Malcolm C. Smith, CPP, of Qatar; President-Elect Timothy M. McCreight, CPP, of Canada; and CEO Peter J. O’Neil, FASAE, CAE, on the Global Board’s Executive Committee.

ASIS Foundation Awards More Than 100 COVID-19 Support Grants
ASIS International announced that since the launch of the program in November 2020, the ASIS Foundation has awarded more than 120 COVID-19 Support Grants to its global membership. This is a major component of the association’s efforts to address the global economic climate and those security communities hit hardest by the pandemic. The ASIS Foundation Board of Trustees approved $100,000 in grants to be awarded to ASIS members in need, encouraging individuals to apply for a grant to renew their ASIS membership free of charge.

Theft, fraud, and losses cost the retail industry $61.7 billion in 2019, according to the annual National Retail Security Survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, security executives reported a steep increase in incidences of shoplifting, organized retail crime, and employee theft over the year prior. The Loss Prevention Foundation and ASIS International have joined forces in developing the new Essentials of Retail Asset Protection Certificate.
