Security Industry Association Strengthens Identity Expertise through Addition of IdTA Members

he Security Industry Association and the Identification Technology Association announced that leading IdTA members will become members of SIA and guide a new SIA Identity and Biometric Technology Advisory Board. IdTA will dissolve its operations and work with SIA’s leadership to recruit additional biometric and identity solution businesses as SIA members. Effective January 1, 2021, CLEAR, Leidos, and SAIC will become SIA members while other current IdTA members IDEMIA and NEC will continue their active membership within SIA.

SIA and ASIS International to Hold Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Event for Security Industry

ASIS International and the Security Industry Association have announced a partnership to produce an event designed to help security organizations and businesses around the world develop and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) strategies. The free virtual event, titled Global DE&I Strategy: Policy and Practices that Produce Positive Business Outcomes, will be held 10 December 2020, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET.

Security Industry Association Says Portland, Ore., Facial Recognition Bans Are Shortsighted

The Security Industry Association (SIA) says that the decision by the city council of Portland, Ore., to ban facial recognition technology use by businesses in places of public accommodation starting January 2021 and to prohibit all city government use of facial recognition technologies are shortsighted decisions that do not consider effective and beneficial applications of facial recognition. The ordinance will impact businesses’ ability to protect workers, customers, facilities and property since it effectively targets business use of security systems.

SIA, ALAS and CANASA Urge Congress to Approve United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement

The Security Industry Association and the Canadian Security Association have formed a coalition to urge the U.S. Congress to promptly approve the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the renegotiation of NAFTA. SIA, ALAS and CANASA collectively represent more than 2,500 companies with business operations located in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

SIA and NCS4 to Present Scott Dunn with 2019 Sports Security Innovator Award

The National Center for Spectator Sport Safety and Security (NCS4) and the Security Industry Association (SIA) have named Scott Dunn—senior director of business development, solutions and services for Axis Communications, Inc.—as the 2019 recipient of the Sports Security Innovator Award. SIA will present Dunn with the honor at the National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition, taking place at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has selected Mark McCourt as the recipient of the 2018 Sandy Jones Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognizes SIA volunteers who have made tireless efforts to expand SIA’s programs and services. SIA will present McCourt with the award at The Advance, SIA’s annual membership meeting, during ISC West. Mark McCourt, head of commercialization at Cobalt Robotics, has made valuable contributions to SIA.

Security Industry Association Names Chris Grniet as Committee Chair of The Year for 2018

The Security Industry Association has selected Chris Grniet, CPP, as the recipient of the 2018 SIA Committee Chair of the Year Award, which recognizes individuals for excellence in leading SIA committees and advancing member objectives. SIA will present Grniet with the honor at The Advance, SIA’s annual membership meeting, during ISC West. Grniet chairs the SIA New Product Showcase Committee and also serves as regional vice president of the security and technology consulting division at Guidepost Solutions.
