PSIA Proves 3×3 PKOC Interoperability: Apps × Readers × Cards

Toronto meetings demonstrate PKOC credentials working across multiple apps, reader brands, and physical cards—over BLE and NFC. Last month the PSIA held technical meetings in Toronto hosted by Bruno Desrochers of Tech Systems Inc. (TSi) and Keith Kelly of Deloitte. The purpose was to perform live interoperability product testing of PKOC with phone apps, readers and cards.

PSIA Announces “What is PKOC?” Document

Two of the leading physical security veterans, Ed Chandler and Jason Ouellette, have drafted a document, “What is PKOC,” to provide detailed understanding of the Public Key Open Credential specification developed by the Physical Security interoperability Alliance (PSIA). The PKOC specification has been gaining significant traction in the market and is now a beyond specification or idea, but a more secure and a real viable option for physical and mobile based credentials. PKOC is not only one of the most secure credential choices, but it is also fully open, and the specification is freely available to everyone without members, fees, or royalties.

PSIA’s PKOC Demonstrated at GSX 2024

The PSIA had another impressive and compelling demonstration of its PKOC spec at GSX 2024. Some of the leading lock and physical access control (PACS) vendors were able to see PKOC in action, with commercially available readers, cards, and apps all relying on the open specification, showing seamless interoperability.  The simplicity of PKOC, ease of integration, and the significant advantage of asymmetric encryption were some of the drivers that were most interesting to the companies and customers who were able to see the demonstration. 

Doordeck Joins PSIA Board

Doordeck has joined the Board of the PSIA. The company has an innovative product that enables smartphone NFC keyless entry for buildings, regardless of which access control system is installed. The company, based in London, England, was established in 2015, and its products and services have been integrated in buildings throughout the world. It is a subsidiary of Sentry Interactive of Austin, Texas.

The PSIA Approves PKOC Card

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) announced it has approved the Public Key Open Credential (PKOC) NFC Card Specification-Version 1.1. The PSIA has been working with a broad group of industry leaders in the card, reader, and access control industries to come up with this specification, which is likely to have a significant influence on the future of secure credentials.

PSIA Launches PKOC in a Minute

Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) released a PKOC explainer video to its site. This video is less than a minute long and demonstrates how the PSIA’s PKOC specification works and will disrupt the access control market. While the PKOC specification is less than three years old, already there are commercial customers in government, energy, and commercial real estate specifying and implementing the PKOC specification in products.

PSIA Hosts PKOC Validation Testing Event- rf Ideas Connects

Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) hosted a special interoperability event with seven companies involved in the access control market, demonstrating the emerging Public Key Open Credential (PKOC) specification. The validation testing was hosted at the Convergint facility in Centennial, Colorado and featured products from Elatec, JCI, Kastle Systems, Last Lock, rf IDEAS, SAFR Scan (RealNetworks), and Sentry.

PSIA Shows Free, Interoperable Mobile Credential at ISC West PLAI and PKOC Open Standards Event

On Wednesday, March 29, the Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) will host a special event highlighting its Physical Logical Access Interoperability (PLAI) specification and its Public Key Open Credential (PKOC) specification. PLAI allows the normalizing of identity data across disparate Physical Access Control Systems (PACS). PKOC is a very exciting initiative, providing a free, interoperable mobile credential, which is likely to usher in a new era in the security market.

The PSIA Approves Secure Credential Specification

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance announced it has approved the Secure Credential Interoperability (SCI) 1.0 specification. The PSIA has been working with a broad group of industry leaders in the access control industry to come up with this specification, which is likely to have a significant influence on the future of secure mobile credentials. Mohammad Soleimani, the Chief Technology Officer of Kastle Systems and the Chairman of the SCI Work Group, introduced this concept to the organization in 2020.

The PSIA Introduces Secure Credential Interoperability Initiative

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) announced its Secure Credential Interoperability (SCI) initiative and a working group to advance its development. The SCI specification supports NFC, ISO14443, and Bluetooth (BLE) and therefore can accommodate all device types including cards, mobile devices, and wearables. The group has already prepared a draft specification for apps, readers, and locks featuring BLE compatibility.

The PSIA Elects Jason Ouellette, Johnson Controls and Ewa Pigna, LenelS2, as Officers

PSIA announced it has elected Jason Ouellette, as its Chairman and Ewa Pigna, the Chief Technology Officer for LenelS2, a part of Carrier Global Corporation, as its Vice-Chairman. In addition, Peter Boriskin, the Chief Technology Officer for ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Americas, will continue in his role as the organization?s treasurer. The PSIA membership develops specifications for enabling standards-based sharing of digital data and intelligence throughout the physical security and enterprise ecosystems.

PSIA Shows Commercial Agent and Adapters for PLAI Demo at ISC West 2019

PSIA successfully demonstrated interoperability between five vendors, with its PLAI specification, at ISC West 2019. The flawless demonstration showed commercial versions of PLAI in Johnson Controls, Software House (C?CURE 9000) and Lenel/S2 (OnGuard) systems. Three biometric vendors, EyeLock, Idemia, and Princeton Identity, and all were able to share credentials across the five systems via the PLAI Agent, a commercial version which is now available from Cruatech.

PSIA Demonstrates PLAI?s Capabilities at ISC West Demo

The PSIA will show continued momentum for its Physical Logical Access interoperability (PLAI) spec at ISC West 2019. Biometrics, an important component of enterprise physical security systems, will also be featured in the demo. Princeton Identity has previously demonstrated its PLAI adapter and at ISC West 2019 we will be showing new adapters from EyeLock and IDEMIA. The demo will be held at the Venetian/Sands Expo Center- Sands Meeting Room 403, on April 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM.

PSIA Demonstrates Commercial Implementation of PLAI Specification

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance’s (PSIA) will demonstrate an important use case of its Physical Logical Access Interoperability specification (PLAI) at ASIS 2017 – Access Control. Another technology that will be demonstrated at the ASIS event will be a commercial PLAI Agent, developed by Software House. The PLAI Agent acts as an enterprise communication hub —essentially a digital traffic controller— for information coming and going between different PACS systems.

PSIA Details Milestones Achieved in Physical Logical Access Interoperability (PLAI) Specification

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) today announced it has achieved important new milestones within its Physical Logical Access Interoperability (PLAI) specification less than a year after forming a Working Group to develop it. PLAI is being designed to enable employee identities and roles defined or revoked in an authoritative logical identity system to automatically propagate to one or more PLAI-compliant physical access control systems (PACS). PLAI synchronizes physical and logical identity management and access control and standardizes functions that typically have required custom programming to achieve.
