Upgrade combines visual and geomagnetic positioning with automatic fallback, machine learning enhancements, and faster deployment across different venue types.
Hidonix Industries, a U.S.-based developer of spatial intelligence, human-centric AI, and integrated robotic systems, has announced ION SDK 2.0, a major upgrade to its positioning and navigation software development kit.
The upgrade enhances Hidonix’s infrastructure-free positioning capabilities across different venue types. It introduces a new Visual Positioning System (VPS) that works alongside the company’s geomagnetic positioning technology, with seamless automatic fallback between the two methods to maintain positioning continuity as environmental conditions change.
ION SDK 2.0 will be available for commercial integration on iOS and Android through Hidonix technology partners beginning November 2, 2026.
Infrastructure-Free Indoor Positioning
ION enables technology partners to integrate positioning and navigation capabilities into mobile applications in environments where GPS signals are unreliable, particularly inside large buildings and multi-floor facilities.
In hospitals, ION can help visitors locate departments and support applications for locating personnel. In museums, it can guide visitors between exhibits and other points of interest. Hidonix has already deployed ION in hospitals, museums, and other large venues.
Unlike traditional indoor positioning systems, ION does not require customers to install dedicated positioning hardware. The latest SDK extends this capability across more venue types while simplifying deployment and reducing infrastructure requirements.
Technology partners can choose to use Hidonix’s geomagnetic positioning technology, the new VPS, or both. When combined, the two technologies automatically switch between positioning methods as conditions change, without requiring any action from users. Partners can also optionally integrate existing compatible infrastructure, such as beacons.
Visual Positioning System With Automatic Fallback
The new VPS determines location using visual markers installed at known points within a venue.
Partners define marker locations on the venue floor plan through the ION Content Management System (CMS) and then place physical markers at the corresponding locations.
In suitable environments, VPS can be deployed without traditional geomagnetic mapping. It can establish an initial position in approximately two to three seconds, whether operating independently or alongside geomagnetic positioning.
VPS complements rather than replaces geomagnetic positioning, which remains a core technology for venues where visual positioning alone may not provide sufficient coverage or reliability.
Machine Learning Enhances Positioning Accuracy
ION SDK 2.0 also introduces machine learning enhancements to Hidonix’s proprietary geomagnetic positioning algorithms.
These improvements enable the system to interpret magnetic signatures more effectively, including in areas with similar magnetic characteristics. The enhancements are designed to deliver more precise and stable positioning in complex indoor environments.
“ION SDK 2.0 extends infrastructure-free positioning across the venues our partners serve,”
said Achille De Pasquale, Founder and CEO of Hidonix.
“By combining visual and geomagnetic positioning with automatic fallback, it helps keep positioning continuous as conditions change.”
CMS Updates Accelerate Deployment
Alongside the SDK improvements, Hidonix has updated its ION Content Management System, which technology partners use to prepare and manage deployments.
Key enhancements include:
- Approximately 75% faster map processing: Navigation map processing following geomagnetic mapping is now significantly faster, reducing processing time to approximately 15 minutes.
- Integrated support ticketing: Customers can submit support requests directly to their technology partners, who can escalate requests to Hidonix when necessary.
These improvements are intended to simplify deployment workflows and strengthen support coordination between customers, technology partners, and Hidonix.
Partner Licensing and Availability
ION SDK 2.0 is offered through a partner licensing model, with scalable pricing tiers based on venue square footage and monthly active users.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is Hidonix ION SDK 2.0?
ION SDK 2.0 is an upgraded software development kit that enables indoor positioning and navigation through visual and geomagnetic positioning technologies.
2. What is new in ION SDK 2.0?
The upgrade introduces a Visual Positioning System, automatic fallback between positioning methods, machine learning enhancements, and faster deployment through CMS improvements.
3. Does ION SDK 2.0 require dedicated positioning hardware?
No. ION supports infrastructure-free positioning without requiring customers to install dedicated positioning hardware. Compatible existing infrastructure, such as beacons, can also be used optionally.
4. How does the Visual Positioning System work?
VPS uses physical visual markers placed at known venue locations. In suitable environments, it can establish an initial position in approximately two to three seconds.
5. How does automatic fallback improve positioning?
The system automatically switches between visual and geomagnetic positioning as environmental conditions change, helping maintain positioning continuity without user intervention.
