Ideal Innovations (I3) has been awarded an $18 million contract by the Department of Defense’s Defense Forensic and Biometric Agency (DFBA) to provide Automated Biometric Identification System Operations Division support to the Biometric Identity Management Agency (BIMA). Under the terms of the contract, Ideal will provide technical operations support, maintenance, and safeguarding of the DoD ABIS.

Specifically, Ideal supports six major functions: 24x7x365 Watch Desk Operations, Systems Administration Technical Support, Examination Services, Metrics Generation, Biometric Modality Support, and Card Scanning Capabilities.

The I3 Team is composed of highly-specialized latent print examiners, biometric examiners, biometric technicians, systems engineers, database specialists, systems administrators, communications/network engineers, information engineers, and watchdesk operators.

“The DoD ABIS has experienced great success in identifying individuals in support of DoD and JIIM partner operations by matching their biometric data and positively identifying individual terrorists, combatants, makers of explosive devices, detainees, criminals, and other persons of interest,” stated Bob Kocher, President and Chief Executive Officer said. “Winning the follow-on contract to continue our support to the DoD ABIS is a testament to the outstanding work by I3 personnel during the past three years.”

BIMA, as directed by DFBA, coordinates biometric activities amongst the services, standardizing application of biometrics across the DoD in order to identify and evaluate new technologies, establish biometrics policy, and sustain the DoD central biometrics repository to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Commanders, Military Services, Defense Agencies and other DoD Field Activities.
