Long Range Facial Recognition for Access Control: A Viable Solution

Fears about fingerprint information capture have long been put to rest. The new frontier for biometric technology is now a reality: long range facial recognition for access control.

Challenges:
Historically there was fear about capturing and storing biometric information.

The second challenge was having to slow down at a door to present credentials, or worse, interact with an unreliable device you had to touch or put your face close to.

We’re not talking about putting your face close to a device any longer.

ZKAccess is talking about "long range" facial recognition at distances out to about 12 feet.

At this range, there’s now enough time for the access control system and the facial recognition device to determine identity and allow or deny access to a door with plenty of time to allow a person to maintain normal walking speed and enter a secure area.

BioCam300 can operate stand-alone (no computer nor panel needed) for quick and easy installations requiring no special wiring, and can also be tied into any existing third-party Wiegand panel for greater security.

BioCam300 unlocks doors upon positive face recognition once authorized users walk within 12 feet of it. Its built-in infra-red illuminators ensure accurate face recognition even in low-light conditions.

“Access Control is a very crowded, commoditized space these days. We find dealers are primarily challenged with preserving profit margins, differentiating their company and reducing training time on new products,” notes Larry Reed, CEO, ZKAccess. “BioCam300 addresses all these concerns since it’s in limited distribution and there are no competing products. BioCam300 installs no differently than any traditional keypad or card-based access control system. It connects directly to the door lock or any 3rd party Wiegand panel. BioCam300 also uses the same power and wiring as traditional systems,” he adds. “The only difference with Biocam300 is its face reader, which takes all of 30 seconds to learn and operate, so there’s practically no learning curve at all.”

In addition to providing 100% hands-free door access, other features of the BioCam300 include: 400 face capacity, 100K transactions storage; Fast throughput with one- to two-second verification time; Dual HD CMOS cameras with audio output and alarm output; 7” LCD display incorporated with the HD IP-camera; Access control with built-in relays for door locks and inputs for REX and door contact; and HD IP video recording which supports a 32GB SD Card or external NVR.

This latest offering from ZKAccess represents an exciting new security product category – long-range face recognition and access control. BioCam300 affordably addresses business and security applications for system integrators of all sizes and skill levels.

ZKAccess claims to be the first to market with this long-range facial recognition reader.
