WOMEN IN SECURITY DOCUMENTARY DETAILS HISTORY OF PINKERTON KATE WARNE, FIRST WOMAN PRIVATE DETECTIVE

Documentary celebrates women shaping the security industry in past, present and future

Pinkerton, a global provider of security and risk management services and solutions, is helping to showcase the rich history of women in the security industry —dating back to the first woman private investigator Kate Warne, a 19th century Pinkerton— by sponsoring a documentary shining a light on this pivotal part of the industry’s legacy.

The Women in Security Documentary tells the stories of women reshaping the security industry, exploring the history of women in the industry and how dynamics have changed. In addition to sharing modern-day experiences, the film also highlights several historical events. For example, the film highlights the story of Warne through historical reenactments.

Melissa Mack, managing director of Pinkerton, shares the story of Kate Warne and her trailblazing work during the film. Pinkertons Paula Mendes, associate director, and Sarah Stone, director, also share their experiences in the industry as part of the documentary.

Warne joined Allan Pinkerton’s detective agency in 1856 at the age of 23, convincing the founder that she could be an asset in investigations. Over the next 12 years, Warne successfully solved several cases, recovering stolen money and uncovering critical information from suspects. Most famously, she helped foil the Baltimore Plot, an assassination attempt on President-elect Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Warne eventually became an executive in the agency with the title of lady superintendent, managing all of Pinkerton’s female operatives.

“It was an honor to represent Pinkerton in this powerful documentary and share the history of industry trailblazer Kate Warne,” said Mack. “I hope this film will encourage women working to bring change to the industry and inspire the next generation of security professionals.”

The Women in Security Documentary will feature in upcoming showings in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Columbus and Dublin.
