Boon Edam today announced that Devon House at St. Katharine Docks, an office building in London’s East Side, has installed a unique TQM manual revolving door at the main entrance, in addition to two arrays of Speedlane Swing optical turnstiles, to increase lobby security. Originally built in 1989 as part of a historic redevelopment by an Act of Parliament, Devon House has over 48,000 sq. ft. of office space.

The property’s design team sought a main entrance solution that would not only accommodate pedestrian traffic, but would also fit with the hotel’s soaring glass exterior and all-white entrance with its large, cantilevered awning extending over the sidewalk. When Crafthouse USA CEO and founder Evan Matz moved from Florida to Virginia several years ago, he realized that the sunny, tropical weather had not followed him there. In the winter, at some of his first restaurants, he noticed an issue with the entry. At one property, as customers entered through a pair of swinging doors, the cold winter air rushed inside and everyone in the dining room wanted to be far away from the entrance. At another location, he had a vestibule with two swinging doors; this better controlled the influx of cold air but took up a lot of expensive, interior space. Matz decided back then that he needed a different entrance solution for his restaurants – a revolving door.

Boon Edam announced that the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) has recently completed a major renovation project featuring a new South entrance with a Boon Edam manually revolving door called the BoonAssist TQ. A major expansion designed by Frank Gehry in 2008 with lead support from the family of Ken Thomson makes the AGO a highly-photographed architectural landmark. The AGO has been undergoing improvements and renovations for a number of years and the most recent project was an ambitious one. In a joint effort with the City of Toronto and the local community, the AGO worked to revitalize Grange Park, a 4.5 acre green space located behind the Gallery.
