Security Tech Firms Hit Asia Casino Jackpot

Sydney – Asia’s new mega-casinos are driving sales and innovation in advanced surveillance technology, from chips with built-in radio transmitters to high-definition, multi-lens, digital cameras that can scan huge gaming floors and catch the deftest sleight of hand. Security solution providers such as German-Australian joint venture Dallmeier International, California-based Pelco, a unit of Schneider Electric, and Samsung Techwin, about 25% owned by Samsung Electronics, are among those reaping the benefits of Asia’s casino building boom. Tens of thousands of security cameras, including some of the most advanced commercially available, have been installed in the southern Chinese territory of Macau alone in the past five years, and many thousands more are on order for the multi billion dollar hotel-casino resorts still in the pipeline. “It’s big business. The camera market here has started to get very big… It’s probably the most demanding environment for a video surveillance system anywhere in the world,” said Craig Graham, Dallmeier International general manager for Asia. “Some of these guys (casino operators) have 700 tables and up to 1 000 slot machines, all of which have to be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” Graham said Dallmeier had about 20% of the video surveillance market in Macau’s gaming industry, where its clients include Sands China , a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands and one of six casino firms licensed to operate in the only place in China where casinos are legal. There are around 100 000 cameras installed in Macau’s casinos, according […]

Samsung Strengthens WISENET Camera Range With Launch Of Fixed Lens IR Dome Camera

Published on 10 Sep, 2013 Samsung Techwin has further strengthened its WiseNetIII 2MP Full HD (1080P) network camera range with the addition of a competitively priced fixed lens IR dome camera. The low price point of the SND-6011R makes it ideal for video surveillance projects, such as schools, hospitals, offices and retail stores where budgets may be restricted and yet there is a need to capture evidence grade images from a large number of cameras. The SND-6011R joins nine other camera models that incorporate the WiseNetIII DSP chipset and have been developed by Samsung as a result of a market research programme which identified what users and installers felt were the key ‘must haves’ in order for high definition IP network cameras to automatically become the preferred choice when a new video surveillance system was being specified, or an existing system was being upgraded. The ONVIF compliant SND-6011R, which is equipped with a 3.8mm fixed lens, is a true Day/Night camera with an infra-cut filter.  It is designed to capture high quality colour images at an ultra-fast frame rate of 60fps at 1080p.  Objects up to 10 metres distance from the camera can be viewed even in total darkness with the help of built-in IR LEDs. Utilising bandwidth friendly H.264 compression with the option to also use MJPEG compression, the SND-6011R incorporates a multi-crop feature enabling users to highlight and crop up to nine areas of interest in order for the camera to only send the images within that […]
