SIA Supports Senate?s STOP School Violence Act

The Security Industry Association (SIA) strongly supports S. 2495, the Students, Teachers and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act of 2018, introduced by a bipartisan coalition of 25 U.S. senators led by Sens. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn. The legislation would fund school security improvements and invest in prevention programs to stop school violence before it happens.

SIA Favors Tax Reform Law For Security And Fire Protection Systems

The Security Industry Association (SIA) led a coalition of industry groups urging negotiators to accept a Senate-backed provision for tax reform to expand deductions under Section 179 of the IRS tax code, which empowers businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment and/or software purchased or financed during the tax year. The revised tax code permanently expands eligibility for deductions to fire protection, alarm, and security systems, along with other equipment, placed in service in 2018 and beyond.

Kathleen Carroll And Craig Sharman Take SIA Chair Positions

During the 2017 SIA GovSummit, SIA Chairman Denis Hebert announced that Kathleen Carroll, Vice President, Government Affairs, HID Global, would assume responsibilities as chair of the Security Industry Association (SIA) Data Privacy Advisory Board. SIA formed SecurityPAC to bolster its advocacy efforts to fully engage within U.S. political process on matters affecting the security industry. The PAC will raise funds solely from SIA members to support candidates for federal office who champion issues important to the industry. The Security Industry Association (SIA), the nonprofit association representing global security companies, and University of Phoenix have awarded full-tuition scholarships to 11 full-time employees from SIA member companies. SIA Recommends School Safety Guidelines, Endorses Proposed Federal Funding For School Security Grant

In the wake of a tragic shooting in San Bernardino, California, on Monday, the Security Industry Association (SIA) pressed for wide adoption of school security guidelines developed by the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS), which prescribe a tiered approach for schools based on available resources. SIA Renews Support For Bipartisan DIGIT Act

The Security Industry Association (SIA) announced its continued support of the bipartisan Developing and Growing the Internet of Things (DIGIT) Act, reintroduced in the Senate on January 10th, 2017, by the Internet of Things (IoT) working group. The group consists of Sens. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii. Sen. Fischer, the bill?s chief sponsor, again recognized SIA as a key supporting organization in a press release.

SIA Hails Passage Of Power And Security Systems Act

SIA has led a coalition in support of extending the current exemption for security and life safety products, which is set to expire on July 1, 2017. Without an extension, manufacturers must redesign EPS products to meet the ?no-load? standard, more than doubling their cost unnecessarily. H.R. 6375 is supported by SIA, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, and the Electronic Security Association, which have also worked with energy efficiency community on the common-sense provision.
