The Convergence Of IT Security And Physical Access Control

The Convergence of IT Security and Physical Access Control

As technology continues to revolutionize the security industry, the fields of IT and physical access control have begun to converge now more than ever. There is increasing demand for access control systems that operate utilizing a single card or smartphone, requiring strong authentication to protect access to physical as well as IT-related resources.

It seems that while many available solutions are strong on the physical security side or the IT side, the marrying of the two together will provide the strongest security solutions while delivering convenience and lower costs.

Organisations are increasingly adopting a model in which multiple access control use cases and identities can be supported on one card or smartphone.

This convergence of use cases and identities eliminates the need for users to remember and carry separate cards or other devices for opening doors, logging onto computers, and accessing cloud-based applications.

It also enables the inclusion of other high-value applications including cashless vending, time and attendance, and secure print management.
