ASIS International celebrated Military and Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2023 on Wednesday. As a thank you for their service, all law enforcement, military, and first responders received a free one-day pass to attend GSX. In Wednesday’s general session, ASIS recognized the bicentennial of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are America’s oldest state law enforcement agency and have been instrumental in not only combatting crime in Texas, but also in disaster response and recovery across the state.
ASIS International opened their annual conference at Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2023 in Dallas. The event will continue through September 13 and feature more than 200 education sessions and over 470 exhibitors. In addition to the days yet to come, this year GSX featured two days of pre-conference events on Saturday and Sunday, including Secure Horizons: An Immersive Experience for Senior Security Executives, ASIS Volunteers’ Day, and the ASIS Awards of Excellence and the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs).
ASIS International and the Security Industry Association have announced details for the 2024 Security LeadHER conference, a special event dedicated to advancing, connecting and empowering women in the security profession. The second annual Security LeadHER conference will be held Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.
ASIS International and the Security Industry Association (SIA), the leading membership associations for the security industry, have announced a partnership to launch a new event designed to showcase women in security. The event, titled Security LeadHER, will be held at the Hilton Nashville Downtown Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, and will kick off with a reception on June 12 with conference programming taking place on June 13. This conference will bring together security professionals committed to advancing, connecting, and empowering women in the security profession.
ASIS International announced the full slate of directors for its 2021 Global Board. The Global Board of Directors, first installed in 2020, is a major step in the association’s transition to a new global governance structure that allows ASIS to better provide service to its members at the local, regional, and global levels. Global Board director Timothy M. McCreight, CPP, of Canada, was selected by the board to serve as Secretary-Treasurer in 2021.
ASIS International and the Security Industry Association have announced a partnership to produce an event designed to help security organizations and businesses around the world develop and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) strategies. The free virtual event, titled Global DE&I Strategy: Policy and Practices that Produce Positive Business Outcomes, will be held 10 December 2020, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET.
Theft, fraud, and losses cost the retail industry $61.7 billion in 2019, according to the annual National Retail Security Survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, security executives reported a steep increase in incidences of shoplifting, organized retail crime, and employee theft over the year prior. The Loss Prevention Foundation and ASIS International have joined forces in developing the new Essentials of Retail Asset Protection Certificate.
ASIS International and the Security Industry Association (SIA), the leading membership associations for the security industry, have entered into a partnership to best aid in the COVID-19 recovery and rebuilding efforts of its diverse group of 34,000 member professionals and over 1,000 member companies respectively. The partnership will begin by addressing two primary areas of focus – business operations and advocacy – as well as content development and coordination.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has appointed Susan Carioti, the vice president of certification, standards and guidelines at ASIS International, to a three-year term as a director-at-large on the ANSI board of directors. As a director-at-large, Carioti will work with members of the board to determine and approve the policies and direction of ANSI’s strategic vision, and in close collaboration with stakeholders from industry and government, to identify and develop standards and conformance-based solutions to national, international and global priorities.
ASIS International announced the educational line-up for this year’s free Security Cares community security education program, which will be held during Global Security Exchange (GSX), Sept. 23-27 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. ASIS International hailed passage of legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that will help increase school security by providing grant money for a variety of school safety measures. ASIS International is drafting a letter of support to share with key Senate offices as they consider this important legislation. ASIS members will be updated as action is taken by the Senate.
