SIA Hails Passage Of Power And Security Systems Act

SIA has led a coalition in support of extending the current exemption for security and life safety products, which is set to expire on July 1, 2017. Without an extension, manufacturers must redesign EPS products to meet the “no-load” standard, more than doubling their cost unnecessarily. H.R. 6375 is supported by SIA, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, and the Electronic Security Association, which have also worked with energy efficiency community on the common-sense provision.

How OSDP Will Help Security Professionals

The Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) is a communication standard adopted by the Security Industry Association (SIA) that lets security equipment, such as card and biometric readers from one company interface easily with control panels and equipment from another manufacturer. In other words, OSDP fosters interoperability among security devices. It also adds sophistication and security benefits through features such as bi-directional communication and read/write capabilities.

Extensive New Poll Finds Most Americans Support Facial Recognition

The survey of 1,000 adults found that most Americans support the use of facial recognition across a wide range of applications. Commissioned by the Security Industry Association (SIA), the survey found that while a solid majority of Americans approve of facial recognition technology generally and 68% say it can make society safer, support rises significantly when it comes to specific public and private sector applications
