HID announced that its latest V-Series fingerprint modules and readers with multispectral imaging (MSI) technology are now certified to ISO/IEC 30107-3 PAD Level 2 standards. The product detects much more sophisticated spoofing attempts based on 3D-type artifacts like those crafted from resin, latex, silicone and prosthetics and ISO 30107-3 PAD Level 2 compliance requires products successfully block 99% of spoof attempts.

Existing traffic signal controllers are often inadequate in handling traffic congestion and reinforcement learning (RL) has been adopted to solve this problem. However, RL usually works in a stationary environment, while traffic environments are nonstationary. Researchers have now developed a meta-RL model that adjusts its goal based on the traffic environment, maximizing vehicle throughput during peak hours and minimizing delays during relaxed traffic flow. The algorithm has a wide-area coverage and outperforms existing alternative algorithms.

US DOJ Sues to Block ASSA ABLOY?s Proposed Acquisition of Spectrum Brands? Division

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil antitrust lawsuit to block ASSA ABLOY AB?s (ASSA ABLOY) proposed $4.3 billion acquisition of the Hardware and Home Improvement division of its rival, Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc (Spectrum). ASSA ABLOY and Spectrum are two of the three largest producers of residential door hardware in the concentrated, $2.4 billion U.S. industry.
