The irony of this fact is that a well-functioning security solution is transparent to the end-user. It is only if the security system fails that it comes to the attention of management. Surveys have indicated that the network needs to be upgraded virtually every time a channel partner sells born-worn cameras, smart locks, access control or video surveillance equipment so that these devices can be adequately supported. New York City, for instance, is looking to manage and collect data from two to three million devices, which O’Connor said will require a massive investment in establishing and managing network connections.

Information and analysis company IHS Markit has made its predictions for electronic access control for the year 2017. According to its report, the access control market will increase this year by 6.8%, exceeding $4.2 billion. The company says deeper integrations with video surveillance, business processes and IOT will ensure that access control continues to play a larger role in enterprise. IT, integration and mobility (remote connectivity) specialists are expected to see more growth as logical/physical security integrations together with remote services such as access-control-as-a-service are expected to be some of the top trends. Mobile credentials and biometrics will be two of the top hardware trends to watch.

Currently, there are approximately 100,000 public K-12 schools in America. On average, the main instructional buildings for these schools are more than 40 years old. The age of those buildings can create an issue in building quality, possibly negatively affecting both students and teachers. Studies show student achievement is linked to building quality, and facility quality can have a ?substantively significant? effect on teacher retention. If students are in school to learn and teachers are in school to teach, we want them to do that to the greatest of their abilities. They must have safe learning and teaching environments.
