Axis IP-cameras Secures Mindtree East Campus

Mindtree East campus is a large facility with over 1200 mindtree “’minds” walking in each day. The management was looking for an effective way to enhance their monitoring with respect to the safety of the entire premises and all visitors and staff. Total of 68 network cameras were deployed across 6 floors with an area of 107,000 sq ft. CONCERNS The implementation has brought a number of benefits. Apart from the cameras, the organization has also deployed its own Mindtree Manage Mind VMS and Video Analytics on standard off-the-shelf servers to address the below challenges: The head of security and senior security officers are constantly on the move and needed quick access to live video and recorded feeds. The head of security is located in a different campus located across the city. Entry to certain areas within the campus such as data centers, finance bay and hardware labs is highly restricted. Security officers need to be alerted as soon as anyone enters these areas. Security officers watching the video feeds from the control room wanted to be able to create incidents and assign them to specific security officers. Ensure that service entrances were not mis-used. For example, vehicle parking at service entrances is restricted to duration of loading/unloading of goods and equipment. Security officers wanted a quick mechanism to assess all security incidents that occurred during the day. Guards frequently moved out of their position especially after office hours and during the weekends. Web browser-based clients enable security officers […]

Hopatcong SC School Security Improvements Underway, Superintendent Says

New video and camera surveillance systems are in place to keep students and staff safe. Hopatcong Borough Schools Administration Building in file photo Hopatcong Borough Schools has undertaken an aggressive review of current operational practices with an eye toward improving building security—and improvements are already underway and ongoing, according to a school district statement. The district’s goal, according to Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina, is to ensure greater scrutiny of all visitors, staffers and students entering and exiting Hopatcong school buildings.  Several changes to the district’s security system are in place or in progress: Surveillance cameras are being placed in locations not adequately monitored. An access control system is being installed that automatically opens and locks doors on a schedule. It requires the use of access swipe cards by staff members. When a locked door is opened by an unauthorized person, the system registers as an alarm event on surveillance video. Wireless cameras are being planned to monitor the major athletic fields. All main school entrances will be modified to include real-time camera surveillance with intercoms and electronic buzzer entry systems. Randina said security planning will continue to be modified as needed based on suggestions from trained police officers as well as school security personnel.

RF Technologies Releases Enhancements To Help Alert Wireless Panic Button Solution

BROOKFIELD, Wis. , Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — RF Technologies ® , a leading provider of RFID and RTLS safety and security solutions, has released version 2.1 of its Help Alert ® Wireless Staff Duress Solution, which provides priority-based alerts, universal device access through HTML5, and a simple desktop application. Help Alert uses discreet mobile panic buttons, or pendants, as a proactive, cost-effective solution to protect staff, patients, teachers, students and guests. When pressed, pendants broadcast a silent alarm that can be configured to alert security teams, first responders, or local police through a computer or mobile device. “The increased need for safety in places like schools, hospitals and hotels means facilities are looking for a simple, yet multi-functional duress solution. Help Alert is as easy to use as it always has been, now with more features that help get a fast response when it’s needed most,” said Bill Bulzoni , vice president of business development, PinPoint. Multi-mode alarms Instead of having a system that only summons onsite support or calls the police, both types of duress calls can be made from one button on the Help Alert pendant with the multi-mode feature. Pressing the button once will generate a normal alarm. If the button is pressed and held, or pressed multiple times within a short period, a priority alarm is generated. “Many facilities regularly experience safety and security challenges that don’t require external police intervention. But, the option has to be available when it’s needed. The multi-mode feature enables […]

UK CCTV Commissioner Hosts Conference On Regulation

By Tom Reeve on October 31, 2013 Andrew Rennison, the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, addresses the audience at his first conference on the code of practice Around 120 delegates attended the Surveillance Camera Commissioner’s conference in London last week to hear about and discuss the latest developments around the commissioner’s new code of practice. The event was held at the Royal Society in central London and was opened by the commissioner Andrew Rennison who, after introducing the day’s speakers, called for delegates to help promote the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice to the CCTV industry. Borrowing a word from Lord Taylor of Holbeach, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Criminal Information at the Home Office, Rennison asked people to go forth and “evangelise” the code. He said it was an approach that had worked during his six years as the Forensic Science Regulator, and it was on the back of this success that the Home Office had asked him to become the interim CCTV regulator (later to become the surveillance camera commissioner). Evangelising the code is necessary because, of course, the code is not mandatory and, as it only applies to systems owned by local authorities and the police, covers less than five per cent of CCTV systems in England and Wales. Andrew Rennison, Surveillance Camera Commissioner And while relevant authorities have been told they must have regard to the 12 guiding principles of the code, there are no penalties for failing to observe it. Compliance is entirely voluntary […]

Is Street Photography Ethical?

Christina Harman In a day and age where there is a threat of images falling into the wrong hands, the issue of street photography is coming under fire from public opinion. Ironically, in a time where everything we do is being increasingly captured on camera anyways – whether by security cameras or at the ATM, public awareness – and opinions on the issue of street photography are also on the rise, and the debate goes on. Street Photography photography by Ian Carroll However some photographers wonder why there is even a debate on the ethics of street photography. Surely ethics aren’t an issue for photojournalists, or something that other photographers have to face. Why are street photographers being singled out and viewed with suspicion? Photography has always come under scrutiny Whether it’s a photographer photographing people in a culture that is superstitious of the camera, or a photojournalist being criticized for photographing the plight of someone – rather than helping – photography of any kind will always involve an ethical dilemma. Photojournalism in and of itself isn’t unethical; however, snapping photos at the scene of an accident can cause the issue of ethics to come into question. In the same way, street photography in and of itself is not an ethical issue. It’s the problems that arise from some of the tactics that are used, the potential conflicting motives that are involved with some cases of photography (should homeless people be photographed for art?), and the public concerns and […]

AMG Systems Integrated Meyertech ONVIF VMS Solution

Source: AMG Systems | Date: 10/29/2013 Related tags: AMG systems AMG Systems , the British manufacturer of sophisticated Megapixel cameras and CCTV transmission technology, and Meyertech, market leading British supplier of Enterprise Video Management solutions, have announced a technology partnership that will see the AMG-Panogenics 5 megapixel 360 degree PanoCam360 camera range integrated into Meyertech’s FUSION-Core-SolarVMS. David Wood, at Meyertech, says, “Panoramic cameras provide massive advantages over traditional security cameras and are rapidly becoming the new de facto standard in surveillance, demanded by end-users and installers/integrators alike. Since a single panoramic camera can cover an area that would previously have demanded the deployment of several devices, installation is simpler and less costly. A single panoramic camera also makes things much simpler for control room staff and data recording requirements. We chose to use the AMG Systems’ PanoCam360 range due to its very high build quality and specifications, especially its industry-leading 5 megapixel resolution. AMG provided us with all the necessary support every step of the way during the integration and testing process of the cameras and, thanks to their support team, the integration of the PanoCam360 went very smoothly.” Sara Bullock, International Sales & Marketing Director of AMG Group commented, “I welcome this strategic partnership with Meyertech, which pairs the PanoCam360 with Meyertech’s FUSION-Core-Solar video management software. This is a powerful and versatile platform which offers many innovative features. For example, it boasts a fully customisable Graphical User Interface, auto log-off facilities, and a unique system model facility that […]

Security Cameras Roll Out In North Augusta SC

Staff Photo by Scott Rodgers The new security cameras are up at the municipal center. North Augusta will soon have a new tool in its fight on crime. The City has already installed a number of high-tech surveillance cameras at the municipal center. Following the numerous break-ins that occurred throughout the summer, action was taken to put in place some preventive measures. Even John Thomas, the chief at North Augusta Public Safety, had his unmarked Tahoe broken into. “What really spurred the decision was the number of break-ins we experienced in the Greeneway parking lots, where folks would park out in the remote areas and go walk,” Rick Meyer, director of North Augusta Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services, said. “Also in front of the activity center and Riverview Park. It comes in cycles – we’ll go six months and not have any; then we’ll have a rash of them. These folks are pretty good; they can break into your car, we’ve timed it on video, in 10 seconds or less.” Meyer noted that although there are some existing cameras in place, they do not have the coverage and capability of the new ones. He also said there are currently zero on the Greeneway, so this will be brand-new along that area. “We have a few when you walk in the door here, but they’re ancient and need to be replaced,” he said. “All of the locations themselves – and this also includes the soon-to-be-built Park and Ride out on […]
