Device Pack 7.2 has deep driver support for more than 3,000 devices, which means that Milestone has added more than 2,000 supported devices since 2011. The Milestone Device Packs include optimized drivers that enable all the relevant capabilities of a camera or other hardware device to be managed fully by the XProtect software. Milestone works closely with the device manufacturers in the Manufacturer Alliance Program (MAP) to achieve the optimal interaction between their devices and the XProtect VMS . This ensures the highest quality for a video surveillance solution – very important for total system operability, efficiency and stability. Milestone is actively promoting driver standards like ONVIF and PSIA , but these standards are not always able to keep up with the rapid development of security device hardware. Milestone steps up with dedicated, deep driver support to ensure that partners can leverage the newest device technologies in their solutions, with the freedom to choose camera models from more than 100 manufacturers in the Manufacturer Alliance Partner (MAP) network. Retailer Paul Smith Goes IP

Video management software (VMS) with network cameras are being deployed across all of Paul Smith’s 45 stores as part of the UK-based retailer’s first company-wide IT refresh. Initially the new digital video system is being used for loss prevention but once it is fully in place worldwide by the end of 2015, Paul Smith plans to use it for business intelligence to assist retail operations management. Paul Smith has been an early adopter of IP and cloud-based services. In 2001 it migrated to IP telephony, installing a Cisco IPT network. Embracing the latest IT management approaches (including use of open-architected and Microsoft-based systems), the company has been able to maintain a relatively small network services team despite growth. Paul Smith has a retail presence in 35 countries. This approach means that when new IT challenges present themselves, Paul Smith’s Head of IT, Lee Bingham, pictured, looks for standards-based products that can be scaled up. He specifies that new systems and services must last a minimum of ten years because he simply does not have the manpower or budget to go on replacements of devices and software. Paul Smith’s legacy CCTV had grown organically as the group expanded. When the IT department was asked to take over running Paul Smith’s CCTV, Lee Bingham insisted that it must be moved to IP video and be visible on the corporate network: “If it’s not IP then it’s not IT, and therefore it made no sense to move it from our Facilities Management […]

EET Europarts Saves Money With Iqinvision

16-12-2013 EET Europarts is relying on a combined Iqinvision-Milestone advanced IP video surveillance solution to document all transactions, improve customer service, and enhance overall productivity. With annual sales topping $250 million, EET Europarts is one of the largest distributors of IT products and parts to more than 24 countries in Europe. The 113,000 square foot (10,500 square metre) Logistics Center is located in Ballerup, Denmark, where the vast majority of shipments originate, and ships an average of 3,000 packages daily. A few years ago, EET’s management sought to improve operations by more effectively documenting for their customers that the correct products had been accurately packaged and sent. This would help reduce employee errors and provide an audit trail to more efficiently solve any packaging mistakes. Timely, accurate documentation of all shipments would also improve customer service and customer relationships, and cut costs that EET normally had to cover in the event of shipping error claims. The solution to EET Europarts’ challenges proved to be right under their noses, sitting on the shelves of the warehouse:  since 2009, the company had been a distributor of Iqinvision HD megapixel network cameras. The company chose to optimise their logistics processes with Iqeye network cameras for their excellent image quality and high reliability. Further, Iqeye cameras are quite easy to set up and operate. To view, record and export the video from the cameras, EET Europarts chose Xprotect from Milestone Systems, the global industry leader in open platform IP video management software. To […]

SALTO integrates with Milestone XProtect

Northern Ireland-based Ambar Systems, a SALTO Certificated Partner, has developed a plug-in integration that combines SALTO Systems access control with XProtect software. It is estimated that more than 10 million people rely on SALTO each day to provide access control over who is able to access what, where and when. Ambar’s plug-in integrates SALTO Systems directly into XProtect Smart Client, enabling users to control access and monitor video surveillance from a single interface. The SALTO plug-in captures critical events from the SALTO software and registers them as alarms in XProtect Smart Client. These alarms are automatically linked to relevant video footage from corresponding cameras. Other key features include: Users can seamlessly control cameras in their surveillance system, such as starting/stopping recording, changing video frame rate and moving cameras to focus on a door Monitoring events are issued by the Salto system and automatically registered as alerts within the alarm manager in XProtect Smart Client. Full details of the event, card holder, location and time are captured along with the video footage to provide a complete package of surveillance information Allows users to open doors remotely from the XProtect Smart Client.

Port Arthur, Sabine-Neches Waterway Improve Video Security

Port Arthur featured With high-level national security implications, live-camera views and the ability to quickly check recorded video is essential to the port’s operational standards for efficiency. As the fourth largest port in the U.S., Port Arthur in Texas’ Jefferson County is the number-one crude oil destination for foreign tankers, as well as the number-one commercial and military out-load port. Hundreds of vessels are processed through the channel each day, making their way from other domestic ports and from all over the globe into the Gulf of Mexico and up the Sabine-Neches Waterway.   With oil refineries and other critical infrastructure lining the 55 miles of river bank through Jefferson County, the sheriff’s department required a sophisticated security surveillance system to monitor waterway traffic and incidents. Deputies needed to ensure the safety of those working and traveling through the port, and to keep commercial and military traffic flowing.   A vast waterway traffic-monitoring network has been deployed at Sabine-Neches to ensure all vessels can safely navigate the waters. The new surveillance system also monitors the many petroleum refineries that line the channel. Backed by a Verizon Wireless 4G connection, the county cameras alongside the waterway are networked through the use of Milestone XProtect Enterprise surveillance software.   “Milestone’s open platform IP software integrates with all of the cameras seamlessly” said Mark Nolan of Knight Security Systems, the designer and integrator of the Sabine-Neches Waterway monitoring and surveillance project. “Milestone XProtect provides the sheriff’s department with more high-definition screen images […]
