CaughtOnCamera: This Couple Has No Idea They’re Standing Next To A Black Bear

PASADENA, Calif. — Dry weather and high temperatures likely combined to draw out a California black bear from the Angeles National Forest this week and in one case onto the front porch of a Pasadena home, according to wildlife experts. “It must be so dry up there and it’s hot and now he’s looking for something to eat,” said Ricky Whitman, a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. “Closer to where there’s garbage and where the people are is something that would lure them down.” The drought affecting Southern California has dried up the vegetation that the bears would normally feast on, said Whitman. A bear wandered Thursday afternoon for a couple of hours between homes near the Eaton Canyon Park Golf Course close to Old House Road and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. Police and California Department of Fish and Wildlife wardens were on scene, according to reports. Janice Mackey a spokeswoman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, said the bear made it back into the forest unassisted. A Scottish couple visiting family in Pasadena had a close encounter Tuesday with a California black bear, which was captured on security cameras installed outside the home. The footage showed the couple coming out of the home without noticing the bear, which was lurking a few feet away on the front porch. The bear followed the couple off of the porch and out of the view of the camera. Bobby McKeown said he felt something at his […]

CaughtOnCamera: Wild Arrest In Detroit

Detroit Police Department wild arrest caught on camera A wild arrest was caught on tape and only 7 Action News has obtained the video.  There’s no disputing the traffic stop in Detroit turned ugly fast with fists flying between a cop and the woman he pulled over. The woman and her family say the officer was way out of line and the police say he was doing his job. This all happened in the parking lot of a party store on 7 Mile Road – where security cameras watch everything. It all began Sunday afternoon with the officer ticketing the woman for no seatbelt, no registration, no license and expired plates. But as the stop appeared to be wrapping up, words are exchanged – and everything went sideways. When the officer tried to place the woman under arrest, she wouldn’t cooperate and he took her down. It’s what happens next that the woman, her family and witnesses say is way out of line. The officer pulled out his handcuffs, and, in the struggle, appears to hit her. The store owner, who doesn’t want his face shown, says that’s when he stepped in. He says "he punched her twice on the face. I told the officer stop hitting her twice and that’s when he stopped." The woman ended up in the back of the patrol car moments later where her aunt captured her on cell phone video of her saying "he’s over there laughing and he’s just hit me over […]

CaughtOnCamera: SUV Plows Into House

suv crashes home An SUV is seen crashing into a Texas home on Dec. 30, captured by security cameras. (Photo: WFAA-TV, Dallas) Tarrant County, TEXAS — First, you see the lights approaching. Then, the impact makes you cringe. Again. And again. And again. Four cameras aimed in four directions clearly capture a hit-and-run, with Rick and Mary Whitbeck’s house falling victim to a speeding SUV. The Whitbecks were out of town Monday morning when a white SUV plowed into their home at 3:32 a.m., according to the camera’s clock. Seconds later, cameras show the SUV in reverse and backing out of the big mess. The Whitbecks have eight security cameras at their home, installed because they’d been burglarized. Four cameras are in the front yard. They covered up the hole and shored up the roof, but they face thousands of dollars in repair to a home they totally renovated themselves. They hope the video leads to the driver being caught, they said.

CaughtOnCamera: Security Video Of Blazing Meteor

[embedded content] There’s nothing quite like seeing a massive fireball burn through the night’s sky. Much bigger and brighter than a shooting star, these dramatic meteors tend to catch onlookers’ attention. One recent fireball that blazed over Iowa and surrounding states, caused hundreds of wowed residents to call in the sighting to the American Meteor Society. The meteor appeared on December 26 around 5:45pm local time. More than 1,200 people reported the sighting, making it the third most reported fireball in the history of the society’s online reporting system. Some witnesses said the fireball was as bright as the sun, while others noted sonic effects and delayed booms. A few said the meteor’s color ranged from yellow to orange to blue. The fireball was caught on tape by a security camera at the public works facility in North Liberty, Iowa. In the black-and-white video, the meteor can be seen from several different angles as it shines through the sky and at times illuminates the houses and roads below. Earlier this month marked the annual Geminid meteor shower, which is the most vivid of all showers. The Geminid light show is typically full of fireballs, along with more than 100 meteors per hour. This year, the shower kicked off on December 4 and peaked on December 13 and 14. Here is a heat map that shows where people were when they reported seeing the most recent fireball over Iowa: (Credit: American Meteor Society) Other Articles:

At that point Briggs and several others joined in the pile up while other passengers ran for safety. Brown was held by the heroic passengers until authorities could arrive. “People were kind of committed at that point,” Briggs said. “It was just kinda one of those things that no one gave any thought to once things started happening.” Brown was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery, according to ABC new affiliate KOMO . Security Guard Catches Baby in Most Harrowing Baby-Catching Footage You’ll See Today An idiotic father in Poland’s Katowice-Pyrzowice airport places his kid on a luggage counter. And you notice the surveillance video is hosted on Live Leak, which means the falling baby’s story will only end with his brains splattered about.  But you weren’t counting on this hero—a security guard who jumps out of NOWHERE to snag the kid. It’s some Calvin Johnson-worthy stuff. The guy has hands . At the :22 second mark, you see the baby handed off to his mother. Who then, presumably, beat the father to death. Here are two more angles. The diving catch only gets more amazing the more you see it. (Thank you, omnipresent airport security cameras! ) [H/T: Guyism ]

Video shows destruction. Cafeteria hit, ceilings collapse into the halls, gymnasium destroyed LAFAYETTE (WTHR NBC13) Security video of a tornado striking a Lafayette middle school has the school district doing its homework on how best to keep kids safe. No decision has been made on demolishing or refurbishing Southwestern Middle School, which was hit by one of dozens of tornadoes to hit Indiana November 17. “This is the first impact and it hits the west wall and then the south wall,” said Principal Karen Smith. The video as the tornado impacted Southwestern Middle School is harrowing. School security cameras captured the scene. “When you see light, that means the west wall is already gone. That is the light from the outside coming in,” said Smokey Anderson, head of emergency management for Tippecanoe County. The tornado hit on a Sunday when there were no students at the school. You can imagine a much worse outcome had kids been in these halls or in the cafeteria. Watch- 13 WTHR Indianapolis
