Axxon Intellect Enterprise VSM Secures German Mobile Operator E-Plus

The E-Plus data center became home to a video surveillance system based on the Axxon Intellect PSIM platform and Brickcom HD cameras Axxon Intellect is VMS with a modular architecture, allowing creation of integrated security systems of any level of complexity Owned by Telefonica, E-Plus is a multinational telecom and one of the top three mobile operators in Germany. The company serves over 19 million subscribers. Over 4,700 specialists are employed by the company in Germany. 2012 revenues totalled EUR 3.4 billion. E-Plus was in a situation similar to that faced by many businesses: it needed to update the security and video surveillance systems at the company’s data centre. The facility was guarded by a patchwork of analog cameras that were located on different networks. E-Plus needed to transform a scattered arrangement of cameras into a modern, integrated system with support for future expansion, hardware additions, and new instruments and functions. Until recently, video at the site was provided by WINMag analogue cameras produced by Honeywell . But new challenges required surveillance with higher resolution and greater support for integration, as a part of a flexible integrated security system with support for rapid, situation-dependent configuration changes. Ease of setup and use were driving factors as well. The client’s choice went to the Intellect Enterprise, developed by AxxonSoft . Axxon Intellect is video management software with a modular architecture, allowing creation of integrated security systems of any level of complexity. A decisive advantage of Axon Intellect Enterprise over competing products […]

Axis IP-cameras Secures Mindtree East Campus

Mindtree East campus is a large facility with over 1200 mindtree “’minds” walking in each day. The management was looking for an effective way to enhance their monitoring with respect to the safety of the entire premises and all visitors and staff. Total of 68 network cameras were deployed across 6 floors with an area of 107,000 sq ft. CONCERNS The implementation has brought a number of benefits. Apart from the cameras, the organization has also deployed its own Mindtree Manage Mind VMS and Video Analytics on standard off-the-shelf servers to address the below challenges: The head of security and senior security officers are constantly on the move and needed quick access to live video and recorded feeds. The head of security is located in a different campus located across the city. Entry to certain areas within the campus such as data centers, finance bay and hardware labs is highly restricted. Security officers need to be alerted as soon as anyone enters these areas. Security officers watching the video feeds from the control room wanted to be able to create incidents and assign them to specific security officers. Ensure that service entrances were not mis-used. For example, vehicle parking at service entrances is restricted to duration of loading/unloading of goods and equipment. Security officers wanted a quick mechanism to assess all security incidents that occurred during the day. Guards frequently moved out of their position especially after office hours and during the weekends. Web browser-based clients enable security officers […]

Bozeman Yellowstone Int’l Airport Upgrades Its Surveillance System

Boseman Yellowstone International Airport Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is the only airport serving as a year-round getaway for two Yellowstone National Park entrances. Established in 1941, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport provides, operates and safely maintains an aviation facility to service the needs of the flying public in Montana. The 2,481-acre airport enplanes nearly 400,000 passengers per year and more than 73,000 aircraft operations.  Last year, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport expanded its terminal area by adding 125,000 square feet of space, including three additional gates, a new baggage claim carrousel, expanded food and beverage and gift concessions area. With the additional space and increase in air travel from the airport, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport decided to upgrade its aging surveillance system. Bozeman previously had two DVRs and numerous analog cameras that only covered the old terminal area. The outdated analog system did not provide the coverage needed or high enough resolution images to clearly identify incidents. To create a new surveillance solution, Bozeman worked with Video & Sound Service Inc. to replace all of the analog cameras with new IP cameras, review various access control systems and video management systems (VMS) and select a reliable solution that would be easy to operate. Video & Sound Service installed the exacqVision Enterprise VMS, integrated with an RS2 Technologies access control system. The exacqVision software solution, combined with 135 Axis 3.1 megapixel IP cameras proved to be the most efficient surveillance solution. exacqVision was chosen for its extreme ease of use, flexibility […]

Access Control Sees Continued Push Towards Mobile Capabilities

Much of the buzz around access control in recent years has centered on the potential held by near field communications-enabled devices, which many people have pegged as the credential of the future. The reason for the excitement around NFC is well-founded as the majority of smartphones already have NFC functionality built into them. And while the viability of the technology has been proven in numerous case studies, widespread adoption has yet to take place. However, manufacturers are continuing to focus much of their efforts on developing products with mobility in mind. Innovation is also continuing to take place at the enterprise-level with advancements in access control management software. Just as video side of the industry has been focused on the migration to IP, access control companies are also looking into how they can make their products more interoperable with the network and with other security devices. There has also been steady demand for managed and hosted access solutions as organizations look to reduce their security infrastructure costs. SIW spoke with several industry experts at this week’s ASIS show in Chicago, to get their take on these and other trends that are currently taking place in the market. SIW: What do you feel are the biggest trends taking place in access control? Peter Boriskin, director of product management, electronic access control, Assa Abloy : The biggest game changer is mobile. We see mobile everywhere, from mobile devices for mobile guard stations to mobile credentials. Security officers are using the corporate […]

Innovation In Video Surveillance Tech At A Crossroads: Part 2

Editor’s note: This is part two in a two-part series on video surveillance trends from the perspective of several industry experts. Part one examines overall industry trends, the continued migration to IP and how companies are continuing to provide support to the large existing base of analog device users. Part two delves into the progression of high-resolution imaging technology, developments at the edge and the future of video recording. Over the past several years, it seems as though there has been an arms race within the video surveillance industry when it comes to high-resolution cameras. Just a few years ago, only a handful of vendors offered cameras with high-megapixel imaging capabilities. Now HD resolution is the norm and some companies offer cameras that provide users with as much as 40 megapixels of resolution. There have also been great advancements over the last several years at the edge. Functions such as storage and analytics that could once only be performed on the server side are now being done within the cameras themselves. Has the market settled on a sweet spot for image resolution? What kind of impact will advancements in edge capabilities and onboard storage have on camera R&D over the next several years? Here’s what several experts had to say at the ASIS show this week in Chicago. SIW: Has the industry settled on how much resolution is needed for given applications or are we going to continue to see higher and higher megapixels in the years to come? […]
