Atlanta Invests $350,000 In Operation Shield Video Surveillance Program
Mayor Kasim Reed announced that the City of Atlanta has invested more than $350,000 in technology enhancements to the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) platform at the Operation Shield Video Integration Center (VIC), funded through the Renew Atlanta infrastructure bond program. Currently, the VIC integrates approximately 7,500 publicly and privately owned cameras which significantly increase the Atlanta Police Department?s coverage and situational awareness of the city streets, using state-of-the-art analytical software.

Video Surveillance Technology To Have Biggest Impact On Security Businesses in 2017, Capital One Survey Finds
A Capital One survey found that more than half (52 percent) of security professionals see video surveillance as the technology trend that will have the biggest impact on their businesses in the coming year – a significant increase from 2015 when only 23 percent of respondents answered similarly. Growth of interconnected devices (the “Internet of Things”) was cited as the next most significant trend at 28 percent.

Sensor developer FLIR Systems announced it has acquired unmanned aerial systems maker Prox Dynamics for $134 million in cash. Based in Oslo, Norway and founded in 2007 by pioneers in nano helicopter technologies, Prox Dynamics develops, manufactures, and distributes aerial sensors that are revolutionarily small, light, and covert surveillance systems. Prox Dynamics’ Personal Reconnaissance System (PRS) features their Black Hornet aerial sensor and a hand controller, a system that is pocket sized and hand-launched by a soldier in the field, enabling a significant advantage in situational awareness and mission planning.
