Many locals venture to the establishment for a variety of occasions, whether it’s watching Baltimore Ravens games, celebrating a birthday or sticking around for late night drinks with friends. Just a few doors down stands two other restaurants in the Mama’s family: Nacho Mamas, a Mexican-themed restaurant, and The Pizza and Wing Factory, which is attached to Nacho Mamas and a popular takeout spot. Despite being open for nearly a decade, prior to deploying Avigilon Mama’s on the Half Shell had not implemented a video surveillance system, leaving the restaurant in a vulnerable state from a security standpoint. The restaurant’s ownership approached Unilux, the Maryland-based video surveillance distributor to help design an HD surveillance system for the three restaurants. The company recommended the Avigilon high-definition surveillance solution because of the unparalleled image quality the system provided, the ease-of-use of the ACC software and the efficient storage solutions. The Avigilon system was soon installed in all three restaurants. Challenge Deploy an elite high-definition video surveillance system that will minimize theft, monitor customer activity and ensure the safety of all patrons and employees for a trio of popular Baltimore-area restaurants. Solution As first-time surveillance system users, the owners of Mama’s on the Half Shell installed 14 Avigilon 1 MP […]

Davis County Utah Upgrades Security Cameras
FARMINGTON — With high-definition security surveillance cameras, it is going to be much easier for Davis County to tell the good guys from the bad guys. Although county officials assure they will not be using the upgraded surveillance equipment to spy on others, but rather, to protect county properties from acts of vandalism and to prevent fraudulent claims being made against the county. The Davis County Commission this week approved a series of new contracts with Stanley Convergent Security Solutions in making certain county properties are protected with the best camera equipment available when it comes to surveillance. The contracts, marked confidential to avoid disclosing the exact placement of the cameras, totaled $38,000 in labor, installation and equipment, for four locations, County Director of Information Services Mark Langston said. The cameras will be installed at the Legacy Events Center in west Farmington, the County Memorial Courthouse in downtown Farmington, and at the two county-owned and operated golf courses, Davis Park in Kaysville and Valley View in Layton. “It’s not to spy,” Langston said. But the footage taken will serve as police evidence in the event a crime against the county does occur, he said. The Layton course this summer was the site of two acts of vandalism resulting in more than $10,000 in damage to the green of the nationally recognized 18-hole public course. “We’re just upgrading,” Langston said of the county now in the process of replacing its old analog cameras with new digital cameras. “It is like […]

Small-Town Big Brother: Bunnell FL Eying Slew Of Spy Cameras In City?s South Side
FlaglerLive | February 8, 2011 magritte-false-mirror Magritte’s ‘False Mirror’ (1928) Bunnell city commissioners favor installing eight surveillance cameras at various locations in the city’s south and overwhelmingly black side. One camera would be reserved for the area around the First United Methodist Church and Bank of America downtown, where the homeless gather when the cold-weather shelter there is open. Commissioners are looking at surveillance cameras as a crime deterrent in drug-ridden zones, and as a way to expand the reach of the city police department, which is short-staffed: police officers would be able to conduct surveillance and zoom in and out on license plates, people’s faces or activity in streets or possibly through windows from their laptops, their desks or, conceivably—if they have the proper sign-ons—any computer. The cameras would be equipped with 220x zoom capability. “We have the whole south side, the whole infested area, under surveillance with these eight cameras,” Bunnell Police Chief Arthur Jones said. Four of five Bunnell city commission members conceptually approved of video surveillance in a meeting Monday evening. (They didn’t vote: it was a workshop where voting is not allowed.) They didn’t question whether the system should be in place, but how, and to what extent, it should be installed, considering the costs. Commissioner Elbert Tucker ridiculed the notion that drug dealers wouldn’t quickly adapt, and move out of sight of the cameras without leaving the area to do their business, since the cameras don’t by any means blanket the whole south […]

Axis IP-cameras Secures Mindtree East Campus
Mindtree East campus is a large facility with over 1200 mindtree “’minds” walking in each day. The management was looking for an effective way to enhance their monitoring with respect to the safety of the entire premises and all visitors and staff. Total of 68 network cameras were deployed across 6 floors with an area of 107,000 sq ft. CONCERNS The implementation has brought a number of benefits. Apart from the cameras, the organization has also deployed its own Mindtree Manage Mind VMS and Video Analytics on standard off-the-shelf servers to address the below challenges: The head of security and senior security officers are constantly on the move and needed quick access to live video and recorded feeds. The head of security is located in a different campus located across the city. Entry to certain areas within the campus such as data centers, finance bay and hardware labs is highly restricted. Security officers need to be alerted as soon as anyone enters these areas. Security officers watching the video feeds from the control room wanted to be able to create incidents and assign them to specific security officers. Ensure that service entrances were not mis-used. For example, vehicle parking at service entrances is restricted to duration of loading/unloading of goods and equipment. Security officers wanted a quick mechanism to assess all security incidents that occurred during the day. Guards frequently moved out of their position especially after office hours and during the weekends. Web browser-based clients enable security officers […]

IMS: Global Video Cameras For Perimeter Security Forecast: $200M in 2013
Source: IMS Research | Date: 11/12/2013 Related tags: NVR , DVR , perimeter security , encoder , VMS Video surveillance cameras and analytics continue to be pushed out toward the perimeter at a high rate and are becoming an integral part of electronic perimeter security solutions. According to a recent report published by IHS, the global market for intelligent devices in perimeter security applications is forecast to top $200 million in 2013. Historically, sensors have been the primary means of detection for perimeter security applications. In recent years; however, there has been a growing trend for cameras and analytics to be used in addition to sensors on a perimeter. The perimeter security industry has always been based on layers, so the addition of video only reinforces this ideology. Video and especially video analytics has been the fastest growing portion of the perimeter security industry since before 2010. Previously, perimeter security applications mostly offered detection without verification or identification. Perimeter security integration with video is proving to be a great enhancement in terms of efficiency and the reduction of false alarms. Identification of intruders has become one of the most talked about trends in recent months for perimeter security. This trend is partly being driven by the demand to lower false alarms, lower costs and the ability to provide patrols and guards in the field with real time information on the location and status of an intruder. And now, end-users have several options for identification. Slew-to-cue functionality remains one of […]

Hopatcong SC School Security Improvements Underway, Superintendent Says
New video and camera surveillance systems are in place to keep students and staff safe. Hopatcong Borough Schools Administration Building in file photo Hopatcong Borough Schools has undertaken an aggressive review of current operational practices with an eye toward improving building security—and improvements are already underway and ongoing, according to a school district statement. The district’s goal, according to Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina, is to ensure greater scrutiny of all visitors, staffers and students entering and exiting Hopatcong school buildings. Several changes to the district’s security system are in place or in progress: Surveillance cameras are being placed in locations not adequately monitored. An access control system is being installed that automatically opens and locks doors on a schedule. It requires the use of access swipe cards by staff members. When a locked door is opened by an unauthorized person, the system registers as an alarm event on surveillance video. Wireless cameras are being planned to monitor the major athletic fields. All main school entrances will be modified to include real-time camera surveillance with intercoms and electronic buzzer entry systems. Randina said security planning will continue to be modified as needed based on suggestions from trained police officers as well as school security personnel.

BROOKFIELD, Wis. , Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — RF Technologies ® , a leading provider of RFID and RTLS safety and security solutions, has released version 2.1 of its Help Alert ® Wireless Staff Duress Solution, which provides priority-based alerts, universal device access through HTML5, and a simple desktop application. Help Alert uses discreet mobile panic buttons, or pendants, as a proactive, cost-effective solution to protect staff, patients, teachers, students and guests. When pressed, pendants broadcast a silent alarm that can be configured to alert security teams, first responders, or local police through a computer or mobile device. “The increased need for safety in places like schools, hospitals and hotels means facilities are looking for a simple, yet multi-functional duress solution. Help Alert is as easy to use as it always has been, now with more features that help get a fast response when it’s needed most,” said Bill Bulzoni , vice president of business development, PinPoint. Multi-mode alarms Instead of having a system that only summons onsite support or calls the police, both types of duress calls can be made from one button on the Help Alert pendant with the multi-mode feature. But, the option has to be available when it’s needed. The multi-mode feature enables […]
