Utility Introduces Revolutionary Crime Scene Documentation Technology At IACP 2016
Utility, Inc., announced that it will now offer the industry’s first digital crime scene imaging system, the Smart Scene 360™. This new product represents the next generation in the evolution of body camera technology and it is intended to provide a higher level of situational awareness while enhancing mission critical intelligence. Smart Scene 360 —along with Utility’s full suite of products, including BodyWorn™— were on display at the recent IACP expo in San Diego. Utility provided a virtual reality room at IACP so that attendees could personally experience Smart Scene 360.
Advances in Camera Technology for Vending Machines and ATMs
Video and camera technology is used in a wide range of vending machines from food and beverage-type dispensers to ticketing kiosks and ATMs. Applications range from video security to prevent damage and theft, to uses of cameras as an intrinsic part of the transaction, such as reading barcodes or QR codes for access control.
Newer applications or in development include using video for marketing and to boost sales and biometrics for enhanced security. Facial recognition has an important role to play in both current and future applications.

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) created a video based on the Virtual PLAI Experience, an event held in May of this year, which included eight companies showing interoperability and exchange of identity information relying on the PLAI specification. The video combines step-by-step animation of how the specification works with actual interactive footage of PLAI technology in operation.

In 2019, the PSIA decided to have one of the most compelling demonstrations for its PLAI specification at ISC West 2020. It would rely on a cloud-based agent, which would allow attendees to badge and authenticate at various vendor’s stands who had implemented the spec. As we entered 2020, technical development was progressing well and eight vendors were set to have PLAI implemented in devices and systems at their various booths and suites in Las Vegas.
