Ridley College Secures Campus With Exacqvision
Ridley College is Ontario’s largest co-educational boarding school. Since 1889, Ridley College has prepared students for university. The school currently has an enrollment of more than 600 students from 35 countries. The challenge put forward by the college was to find an open architecture system that would allow them to utilise their existing analogue cameras and integrate with their current Keyscan access system The exacqVision A-Series hybrid servers provided them with the solution and gave Ridley College the opportunity to grow and migrate their surveillance system. With the hybrid server, Ridley College utilised their existing infrastructure and analogue cameras while also integrating with their current access control system for an all-in-one video surveillance solution. The system comprises of 11 Exacqvision A-Series hybrid servers plus Exacqvision Enterprise VMS software with 116 analogue cameras from Bosch, and 26 Arecont Vision and Axis IP cameras, plus the Keyscan access control system. The college is able to benefit from the fact that the new system utilises the existing infrastructure; it deters theft and crime and protects liability with the pool and fieldhouse, as well as providing a sense of security for students, faculty and staff. The college is now able to manage video with the free, easy-to-use Exacq mobile apps. “The Exacqvision system provides a sense of confidence, security and protection. We can view the entire campus from anywhere in our security vehicles, which is spectacular. Since we’ve installed the Exacqvision system we’ve been able to recoup minimally the loss of the damage we’ve incurred.” […]

Video Analytics Provides Solution For Telkom South Africa
12-02-2014 Telkom, South Africa’s largest integrated telecommunications company with over 400 stores, recently deployed the services of systems integrator Itec Digital to install Vi-System, Agent Vi’s real-time video analytics software, integrated with IP cameras from Axis Communications. Telkom sought a people counting solution with a comprehensive reporting structure to analyse footfall trends across the stores. They required accurate data regarding the number of people entering the stores across different time periods vs. revenue generated, to shed light on customer behaviour at the stores. At each Telkom site, 1-2 cameras (depending on whether there is 1 or 2 store entrances) from Axis Communications were installed and enabled with Vi-System to undertake people counting. As people counting draws the most accurate results when undertaken by cameras with a tilt angle (between lens position and ground) of 90 degrees, Axis M3203 (fixed dome network) IP cameras were installed directly above the entrances / exits. The Vi-Agent software component was embedded in the cameras. Itec Digital deployed Vi-System’s “People counting” rule as well as configuring automatic reports from Vi-System’s “Advanced Counting Reports” tool, to attain the requested data. Agent Vi’s people counting solution provides valuable data to Telkom South Africa regarding the number of customers in each store. Using Agent Vi’s advanced reporting tool, a daily footfall report is generated in each store, with presentation of hourly statistics. All the reports are sent to the Marketing Department at Telkom’s headquarters, and such data is imported into Telkom’s ERP system. These automatic reports supply […]

Created: 02/02/2014 11:20 PM KAALtv.com (ABC 6 News) — NFL officials took great effort in making sure the 80,000 fans were safe at the Super Bowl 48 Sunday in New Jersey. And a Minnesota company played a big role in keeping everyone safe. Twenty security cameras were strategically placed at the MET Life Stadium’s parking lot, surroundings and nearby hotels to help keep deter crime and terrorism. Thanks to Steve Dunker of Mobile Pro System based out of West Saint Paul whose company made mobile trailer units that power the cameras atop thirty foot masts. The trailers use generators, solar panels, and even wind to power cameras, lights and radar for months. This technology is also used at construction sites, mines, and by the U.S. Navy. Separately, Mobile Pro Systems also says the University of Minnesota is evaluating whether the systems might also prevent or reduce crime on campus.

EET Europarts Saves Money With Iqinvision
16-12-2013 EET Europarts is relying on a combined Iqinvision-Milestone advanced IP video surveillance solution to document all transactions, improve customer service, and enhance overall productivity. With annual sales topping $250 million, EET Europarts is one of the largest distributors of IT products and parts to more than 24 countries in Europe. The 113,000 square foot (10,500 square metre) Logistics Center is located in Ballerup, Denmark, where the vast majority of shipments originate, and ships an average of 3,000 packages daily. A few years ago, EET’s management sought to improve operations by more effectively documenting for their customers that the correct products had been accurately packaged and sent. This would help reduce employee errors and provide an audit trail to more efficiently solve any packaging mistakes. Timely, accurate documentation of all shipments would also improve customer service and customer relationships, and cut costs that EET normally had to cover in the event of shipping error claims. The solution to EET Europarts’ challenges proved to be right under their noses, sitting on the shelves of the warehouse: since 2009, the company had been a distributor of Iqinvision HD megapixel network cameras. The company chose to optimise their logistics processes with Iqeye network cameras for their excellent image quality and high reliability. Further, Iqeye cameras are quite easy to set up and operate. To view, record and export the video from the cameras, EET Europarts chose Xprotect from Milestone Systems, the global industry leader in open platform IP video management software. To […]

IP Video Secures Beautiful Monaco
13-12-2013 Nestled on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Southern Europe, the Principality of Monaco is an international hub of wealth and enterprise. People of 119 nationalities live here together successfully. Bankers, businessmen and entrepreneurs, people from all walks of life, mingle together in Monaco, which over time has developed into one of the most cosmopolitan and popular states in the world. One reason for this popularity is the low criminality in the principality, the result, among other things, of many years of IP video surveillance. The Monégasque government has been using a video surveillance system for a number of years to ensure peace and security throughout the state. However, the analogue system with a manually controlled tape recording had ceased to be suitable a long time ago. For only a portion of the available cameras were being recorded, while the expenses for the regular maintenance works and the exchange of video tapes were very high. On top of this the search for relevant image sequences within the recording was time-consuming and laborious. Therefore, the decision was made to install a digital system. In 2005, the contract for the installation was awarded to the German manufacturer Dallmeier, which had already successfully realised the video surveillance system at the Casino Monte-Carlo. The company developed a custom-made video surveillance solution which met the customer’s requirements regarding quality and ease of use. Dallmeier had designed a hybrid solution in which the existing system could be converted step by step to a […]

Hikvision Helps London Borough Build Extensive CCTV Solution
By Andy Ball on December 13, 2013 London Borough case image 01 (Custom) Many people know that England has the most intensive CCTV system in the world. In the security world, at this point, it’s fairly common knowledge. In fact, it is estimated that there is one camera for every 32 people in the UK. However, what is not commonly known is that the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in West London has the largest “town center” CCTV scheme in the entire country. This Hammersmith Town Hall project represents a blending of public and commercial CCTV systems that ultimately compose a very large and thorough CCTV system; one that covers public space areas and public space partners to represent the entire civic community. “Public space partners can be defined as private companies that have a vested interest in the wellbeing of the community and the CCTV system that protects it,” explained John Baldwin, Managing Director at Chroma Vision Limited, the System Integrator of this project. “For example, the Chelsea Football Club is part of this CCTV solution, so public administrators are able to view Chelsea F.C.’s cameras.” This overall solution has been a steady work in progress. Yet, when it came time to choose a DVR and platform software manufacturer, Chroma Vision Limited presented Hikvision and the CCTV administrators were impressed. Gradual Improvement In fact, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham’s current CCTV system is the culmination of gradual improvement. Roughly 10 years ago, Hammersmith and Fulham […]

Longview Texas Hospital Security Procedures Reviewed After Stabbing Incident
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) – The president of Good Shepherd Health Systems says as soon as the stabbing happened Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview went on lock down. Hospital officials would not say if any extra security was put in place after the stabbing. “During the normal business hours the general public would have access. After hours, we lock down but that’s strictly after hours,” says Kenny Jerniga, director of security at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. The president of the hospital says their security guards are not armed but did respond to the stabbing as soon as it happened. One witness says the hospital staff could not have done a better job. “They literally swooped in and got everybody moved into an office. They got some of the folks into a bathroom, they were locking the doors, bracing the doors, just standing there waiting,” says Chad Jackson, who was in the hospital with his family when the stabbing happened. “I just can’t say enough good things about the way they handled everything,” says Jana Jackson, who also saw the stabbing. Hospital officials hope the entire crime was caught on camera. “We are in the process of reviewing all of the video surveillance that we have available. It will be turned over to the Longview Police Department for their investigation,” Jerniga says. All of Tuesday and Wednesday’s surgeries are being rescheduled. The Jacksons say they don’t have to think twice, they will definitely be back. “It was not their […]

Spring-Ford SB Approves Security Cameras At Ram Stadium
The plan is part of a larger upgrade of district security cameras. The Spring-Ford Area School District Board of Directors voted on Oct. 28 to approve the addition of cameras in Ram Stadium as part of a district-wide security upgrade. These cameras, expected to cost roughly $22,000, will be added to the $206,489 approved for a security system upgrade that was approved in September. Roughly $300,000 is in reserve for the project. Dehnert objected to the project at the Sept. 23, saying that he would rather see a comprehensive plan for all cameras and security in the district in place before purchasing systems piecemeal. “One of the problems we have today is that we have a piecemeal system that does not work,” Dehnert said. Board members Willard Cromley, Bernard Pettit, Dawn Heine, Ed Dressler and Clara Gudolonis voted in favor of installing the cameras in the stadium; Tom DiBello, Joe Ciresi, Mark Dehnert and Julie Mullin voted against the measure, according to the Pottstown Mercury . In September, DiBello agreed that a comprehensive plan on safety was necessary so that the cameras could fit into larger-scale plan. Currently, the plan is to convert the district’s security cameras to a digital system, and then to install additional cameras. According to The Mercury, other sports teams that use the stadium, such as the Spring City Legion, are unable to contribute to the project.

DA Trumpets Upgraded Security At Western Psych
TribLIVE By Margaret Harding Published: Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, 12:01 a.m. Updated 17 hours ago Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. touted the security improvements made at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic following a tour of the Oakland facility on Friday morning. “It’s outstanding,” Zappala said while standing outside the new main entrance on De Soto Street. “It’s really state of the art.” The redesigned lobby will open next week, UPMC spokeswoman Gloria Kreps said. Many of the upgrades are ones Zappala sought in the aftermath of a fatal shooting in the clinic on March 8, 2012. Former graduate student John Shick, 30, opened fire in the building, killing a worker and wounding five others before University of Pittsburgh police fatally shot him. Zappala’s office hired consulting firms J.P. Hudson & Associates and Condortech Services to review safety procedures in response to the incident. A Condortech report released in November 2012 recommended UPMC spend $2.1 million on security upgrades at Western Psych. Some of the improvements include: relocating and upgrading the main security command and operations center, installing all-in-one security card and fingerprint readers for staff and installing a new video surveillance system, among others. “The doors on the first floor lock down, so your movement is restricted,” Zappala said. “Shick could move through the entire first floor. They’ve stopped that.” Kreps said the security enhancements include: an armed officer always on duty, a walk-through magnetometer in the lobby all visitors must pass through upon entering the building, […]

Axis IP-cameras Secures Mindtree East Campus
Mindtree East campus is a large facility with over 1200 mindtree “’minds” walking in each day. The management was looking for an effective way to enhance their monitoring with respect to the safety of the entire premises and all visitors and staff. Total of 68 network cameras were deployed across 6 floors with an area of 107,000 sq ft. CONCERNS The implementation has brought a number of benefits. Apart from the cameras, the organization has also deployed its own Mindtree Manage Mind VMS and Video Analytics on standard off-the-shelf servers to address the below challenges: The head of security and senior security officers are constantly on the move and needed quick access to live video and recorded feeds. The head of security is located in a different campus located across the city. Entry to certain areas within the campus such as data centers, finance bay and hardware labs is highly restricted. Security officers need to be alerted as soon as anyone enters these areas. Security officers watching the video feeds from the control room wanted to be able to create incidents and assign them to specific security officers. Ensure that service entrances were not mis-used. For example, vehicle parking at service entrances is restricted to duration of loading/unloading of goods and equipment. Security officers wanted a quick mechanism to assess all security incidents that occurred during the day. Guards frequently moved out of their position especially after office hours and during the weekends. Web browser-based clients enable security officers […]

Surveon 3-Megapixel HD Cameras Secure Southern Taiwan City
Source: Surveon | Date: 11/08/2013 Related tags: Surveon , NVR , WDR To ensure the protection of citizens, city surveillance is the most direct and productive method for any government. However, due to a large geographic coverage with thousands of cameras, the installation, integration, stability and reliability issues are very difficult to overcome. Surveon has completed a professional project with 3,000 IP camera installations and fulfilled requirements of high stability, reliability and an extremely low rate on the return merchandise authorization(RMA). Customer A major city in Southern Taiwan planned to upgrade its inner city surveillance system to provide safety and security for its population of 2.8 million in 38 districts. The project would include upgrading to megapixel solutions that can be fully integrated with the control center, branches, sub-station junctions and the existing IT infrastructure. CHALLENGES High Reliability To maintain a project with 3,000 cameras spreading across the city is not an easy task; any RMA is costly for the SI and inconvenience for the customer. Especially many cameras are installed in the intersections and at higher points, it time-consuming and more resources required to evaluate the situation and conduct the repairs. Wide Monitoring Area The widely distributed network areas, scalable architecture and maintenance issues were the challenges the SI first faced in this project. Environmental factors such as heat, humidity, and temperature changes were also obstacles to overcome. Complex Lighting Conditions Every corner is required to be monitored at all times to protect people, prevent potential security threats […]
