Five Key Components Of A Business Alarm System
Installing a business alarm system is still one the most effective ways to safeguard your establishment and prevent burglaries. Since windows and doors are main access points, securing these and other areas within your business is of critical importance. As business security technology has advanced, so has the number of different products and options available for business alarm systems. With the help of a business security expert, systems can be built to meet any level of security and budget. To help prepare you for a conversation with a business security provider, we’ve outlined some of the key components of a business alarm system. Door and Window Contacts Door and window contacts are often what people think of when they think of business security. These are switches that can be mounted to many different types of doors and windows. Each switch is held closed by a magnet. When the window or door is opened, it triggers the main alarm system. If the alarm is deactivated, this trigger sometimes registers as a beep or series of beeps or a mere blink on the main control pad. When the alarm is activated, this trigger sends the alarm into full response mode. Motion Sensors Motion sensors can installed as a secondary line of defense for businesses. As their names suggests, these types of sensors detect motion within a certain area. Some of the most advanced models use both microwave and passive infrared (PIR) beams; the former detects motion while the latter detects heat. […]

The SMC is a key component of Synergis , Genetec’s IP access control solution, which facilitates real-time monitoring of access events and alarms, as well as cardholder management and reporting. When used within Security Center , Genetec’s unified security platform, the SMC becomes a catalyst for organisations to evolve to a unified approach for security management. Genetec customers can seamlessly blend their IP video surveillance, access control, license plate recognition, and intrusion monitoring needs within a single unified platform. “For some time, we’d been wanting to move to a unified security solution for access control and video, but could not afford to waste the significant infrastructure investment we had already made in our access control installation,” states Dick Hamann, Vice President Information Technology and Resources/Chief Information Officer, Seminole State College of Florida. “What we really needed was a solution that could leverage and take control of our existing equipment. When Synergis Master Controller was brought to our attention, we decided to set up a pilot site to test it in one of our buildings. The SMC exceeded our expectations; we were impressed with how easy the migration was and how well it performed. The success of this pilot essentially […]

Bosch NBN-733V-P IP-Camera Product Profile
Bosch NBN-733V-P IP camera The Bosch DINION starlight HD 720P and FLEXIDOME starlight HD 720p RD/VR IP cameras are the next real breakthrough in HD security. In poor light these amazing HD cameras deliver a clear colour image where others show only black and white. And in extreme low-light they deliver a black and white image where others show no image at all! Add the Bosch Video Security app and overcome the bandwidth barrier so you can view HD images from anywhere. Extraordinary low light sensitivity With their high sensitivity in both colour (0.017 lux) and monochrome modes (0.0057 lux), the HD cameras work with minimal ambient light, delivering clear images in a multitude of applications, even where poor lighting is the principle challenge. The 60 fps frame rate helps capture fast-moving objects in applications such as traffic and casinos. Usable images around the clock The starlight IP cameras come with Content Based Imaging Technology (CBIT). This Bosch innovation intelligently combines information from the sensor, image pipe, encoder and Intelligent Video Analysis (IVA) to dynamically optimise the image for every scene. Bosch CBIT-enabled cameras feature two special modes: intelligent Auto Exposure (iAE), which ensures the optimal image of important objects and intelligent Noise Reduction Technology (iDNR) provides the most usable image possible by cleverly optimising the detail-to-bandwidth ratio. By using this iDNR, the image clarity is improved, and the storage requirements are reduced significantly. The 720p starlight HD camera requires up to 30% less bandwidth than other 720p and […]

Ambarella Positioned To Profit From Booming IP Camera Market
Summary: The IP video surveillance camera market is undergoing a fundamental disruption, driving strong secular growth (23% CAGR 2013-17). While the key IP camera vendors are based outside the US, and thus harder to invest in, Ambarella ( AMBA ) is well positioned to profit from its dominance in semiconductor video encoders. Currently, AMBA is trading at a very modest P/E multiple of 11x ex cash based on a FYE (January) 2015 EPS estimate of $1.12. Given the competitive dominance & growth profile, we believe a more reasonable P/E multiple is 18x ex-cash, which leads to $25 price target. Many discussions regarding Ambarella focus on its sports camera business. This is understandable, as GoPro cameras account for a significant portion of Ambarella’s revenue, and GoPro is a highly successful and visible consumer product. However, we believe that the IP camera market will be the key growth driver for the company, though investor focus on this market has been modest. In this article, we would like to provide a better picture of the secular growth of the market and why Ambarella is well positioned to benefit from it. IP Camera Industry Overview: The IP camera market consists of the traditional, business-focused (enterprise and SMB) video surveillance camera market and a nascent consumer IP camera market. Between these two markets, the traditional video surveillance camera market accounts for the majority share of the current TAM. The consumer IP camera market, although small today, is expected to grow rapidly, as the hardware […]

Ottawa Security Company Surpasses $100K Indiegogo Goal
By Jacob Serebrin With the campaign running until Sept. 20, the company is now aiming for $200,000. “It’s a good feeling,” said Russell Ure, the company’s president and co-founder. “We set out in this campaign to get validation.” Blacksumac ’s Piper is a camera-equipped home security and automation device that sends security alerts directly to a user’s smartphone or tablet. Launching a campaign on Indiegogo, rather than attempting to get their product into stores through more traditional methods, was a key part of the company’s strategy, said Mr. Ure. “It allows you to pre-sell significantly earlier than any other channel,” he said. The company is currently in talks with a large box store – Mr. Ure declined to name the company – to get Piper on the shelves. However he said selling the product months in advance wouldn’t have been possible if the company had only gone that route. “You get a chance to test your market,” he said. Going the crowdfunding funding route also allowed the company to gather feedback about the product before it launched. “We’ve learned a lot,” said Mr. Ure. He said that customer concern over the security of data stored in the cloud prompted the company to give users the option to store recorded data locally. The company also expanded their target market through the process. “Initially, we started off focusing on apartments,” he said. “Most people who live in apartments don’t have security systems.” According to Mr. Ure, many people who live in […]
